I just saw that Nashville got Hodgson for only $1M. That's an amazing deal. He was mediocre at best in Sabres but it's not for a lack of talent.

If Kessel retires at 32 years of age cause he gets tired of hauling his kim kardashian cheeseburger ass around the ice, does his 1.25 mill still get retained for the full 8 years?

spin it however you want bud...we didn't get fair value for him.

for (frank) sakes...Pitt didn't even give up one of their top prospects...kessel is worth AT LEAST that much.

and don't play off kapanen as a top prospect...he's not. and the 1st in 2016 will very likely be 20+.

- Pen15

They gave up their top forward prospect. Kapanen is part of the deal

Pittsburgh = WE WANT KESSEL!!!!!

Toronto = Sure, we will take whatever you are willing to send us.

PITT = How 'bout some table scraps and a late 1st?

TOR = Sure, where do we sign?

PITT = Wait a second, we want to pay him less that 7 milly, a'ight?!

TOR = No prob brah, anything you want.

Hey, it's your team too. If you are fine with it being dismantled for (frank) all then that's your thing I guess.
- Tee-Dot

I'm fine with the trade we got the assets we need and picks to move forward. Pretty sure the majority of leaf fans are happy with this trade.
Rielly - Harrington are going to be a good pairing down the road. Plus a good potential with Kapanen.

Just cause a guy was a great player doesn't mean squat for management, the draft looked mickey mouse, and now this. The Leafs are a doomed franchise. The 100th anniversary they won't even be credible. We can celebrate the first half of the franchises existence....
- aminnes

I was fine with the draft...i think it's wrong to judge a bunch of high skilled kids who haven't even played 1 game in the nhl yet.

but not getting a kings ransom for kessel was a (frank)ing joke. management totally blew their load too early. at least wait until sharp and a few others are gone...drive up the price once demand outstrips supply in the market. there's a reason rutherford was pushing so hard before all the other dominos fell. it's because he knew the price would've gone up...smart move by Pitt.

it was expected to eat 2M?!?!? where? when? no way we eat salary on a Kessel trade is what I read here. Phaneuf maybe, but not Kessel...

bottom line, if that exact trade has been proposed tou you here last week, everyone of you would have said no. don't kid yourself.

- fidopro

At least our trade is not as "Saad" as the Blackhawks...

Kapanen isn't a top prospect because the leafs traded for him.

He's a promising young talent.

Move along

How in the (frank) so? Kessel tearing it up with Crosby it'll probably be 24th overall again... in which we will pull another non-koneckny and trade the (frank) right out of the first round.

(frank) this management.

- Tee-Dot

The Pens are far from perfect. That pick may be better than we think.

I would say Habs, Lightning, Washington, Ranger and possibly Islanders could all be better than Pittsburgh.

Kessel is going to light it up, but the Pens still have some of the same problems they have had for the last couple years.

It remains to be seen. I strongly disagree about cap eating big being insignificant. People always assume cap space = the next future awesome.contract cheap player, but it usually just means swapping a Komi for a Clarkson.
- systemtool

It probably would have been better to take back a stiff like Scuderi but I guess that just wasn't an option or the pieces coming back weren't suitable if that was the alternative.

Salary retention aside, what do you think of the assets that came back?

Was out with the fam, just catching up now.

I'm disappointed they had to retain 1.25 and give up a 2nd without getting Pouliot or Maatta. Really getting sick of giving 2nds away like candy; I thought that would have left with Nonis.

Another 2016 first is great, Kapanen looks like a nice prospect and Harrison is now another one of their nearly dozen 3rd pairing potential D prospects.

I am glad the post Kessel era can begin now and not during the season or next year

Leafs have a solid management team in place and are proceeding with the full rebuild that Shanny brought to the board. This is a good deal that helps advance that rebuild. We weren't getting Maata or whatever baby Jesus everyone has been wetting their pants over. There simply weren't a long list of trading partners out there
- Canada Cup

Remians to be seen, they haven't done anything yet to hang any hats on, other than firing a coach mid season while sitting in the playoffs to get Marner. So to say how great they are cause they did stuff in junior is a premature ejaculation....

I don't think much of either.

Maybe the 1st will be a decent player.
