Right but we got two prospects with that 1st and roster player
- TonkaPhaneuf

He's part of the Biggs/Erixson move. I look at it like two deals: Kessel for Kapanen, Spaling, and a 1st;

Biggs/Erixson for 1.2M in cap (miniscule)

Harrington and a late 3rd for a late 2nd.

Don't write off former Leaf first rounder Tyler Biggs, who goes to Pitt in Kessel deal. Was coming back to prominence via ECHL at year's end

Jesus H Christ. The minute this lump of corn-stool gets moved, he's "legit" prospect all of a sudden...

I don't like throwing cap away. Cap space is always valuable. I completely disagree with your stance, but respect your opinion.

What's worse than the fact that they have to retain 1.2m is that you can only retain salary on 3 contracts at a time so with gunnarson still on the books and now Phil it will limit us to only be able to retain on 1 contract at the deadline which would of help maximize value on pending UFA's

Ultimately that is the primary concern.

It was not a good "hockey trade" just like Marincin was not a good hockey trade for Edmonton, but Edmonton really needed to make sure they get tougher and the Leafs really needed to break up this core.

Hello Boston? Hi. This is Toronto. See, we can be just like you in the aspect that we also give away our talented players for buckets of PFK too.

We need a GM quick before Texas Instruments gives away our entire team.

I mean retain (frank)ing salary and we STILL couldn't get Rattamatattaa?!?! Un(frank)ing real. Leafs are (frank)ing pathetic like usual.

it was expected to eat 2M?!?!? where? when? no way we eat salary on a Kessel trade is what I read here. Phaneuf maybe, but not Kessel...

bottom line, if that exact trade has been proposed tou you here last week, everyone of you would have said no. don't kid yourself.

- fidopro

I would have said "no".

Oh well. They got what they could. There is no sense being upset about it now. We need to move on and look forward to some crap being moved out hopefully.

D+ Trade... Kapanen is not some elite prospect like many trying to make him out to be.. Harrington is meh, but to retain salary is just plain stupid.

Leafs should have traded Bozak first and hoped Kessel added some more teams to his trade list.

In good shape for a top 3 pick though
