What's the overall assessment of the trade? What kind of grade would you give the leafs?
- cnixon15

This makes me feel a little better but I would of liked to have gotten at least 1 exciting piece in the deal rather than a few decent ones.
- HealthyScratch6

Get excited for Kapenen. That's a good piece

I feel the same way about Kassian. Gets to go to a team like the Habs who have a future. Should do well
- Smitty98

but they need scoring...Habs are mediocre...Prust>Kassian

I always thought we would get a 1st, good prospect (not elite), and a roster player.

We got that.

Now we also dealt a bag of kife (Biggs, Erixson) and a late 2nd for a bonus decent prospect (2nd round) and a 3rd.

- gravyface

Right but we got two prospects with that 1st and roster player

Aside from the salary retention, I like the deal. 2 prospects, a 1st and a 3rd next year

My only problem with the deal is the 1.2 cap hit we eat for 8 years.
- systemtool

think of it as saving 6.8 to invest on other guys.
I don't think the leafs are gonna have any cap problems for the foreseeable future.

The fact the club had to retain salary on a player of this calibre is shameful and speaks directly to the value of good character...

#BREAKING - Hearing JVR has been garnering interest from the Panthers and Canadiens. Dark horse team are the Predators. Price is steep.

After seeing the return I really hope this doesn't happen. Keep him for the year and let him play under Babcock. I don't see what the rush is.

Yuk. Those draft picks damn near cancel each other out. The Leafs only move up between 6 and 18 spots realistically.
- HonkyTonkMan

So I guess is pretty much convinced the Pens are next year's President's Trophy winners, eh? Makes complete sense. How can they not, especially with Semin in the fold?

Don't write off former Leaf first rounder Tyler Biggs, who goes to Pitt in Kessel deal. Was coming back to prominence via ECHL at year's end

Jesus H Christ. The minute this lump of corn-stool gets moved, he's "legit" prospect all of a sudden...

I don't like throwing cap away. Cap space is always valuable. I completely disagree with your stance, but respect your opinion.
