$1.5M for a Dman that had 10 goals last year is pretty good! |

I'm not dismissing it, but if you think that LA getting Lucic and SJ (aging as we are) bouncing back (by signing Martin Jones?) will relegate us to picking top 5 all of a sudden I think you'll be disappointed.
We'd need to shed the Sedins and let Markstrom start as 1A before we'd have any chance of that. - AlexF
Yes I agree the Sedins need to go before we are a true bottom team, they alone make this a competitive team. That said, all they need to do is miss the playoffs and they'll get a good pick.
If they commit to youth and play younger players, I can deal with missing, as long as they have a good compete level...that's all I ask as a fan right now. Be entertaining and competitive to watch while you transition this team and I'll stick with you. |

I didn't say we're about to have a good season. I said we're still too good to be picking top 5. - AlexF
The only teams I see being worse this year are Arizona,SJ & Carolina. I honestly can't think of anymore. There may be 2-3 that I missed, but I think we'll be in the mix for sure. |

Agreed. It was also completely out of character for Stanis. - AlexF
Stanis is wussy whipped big time. Melisandra needs to be offed. |

I get the feeling as more vets leave, the Sedins will warm up to the idea of playing for a contender and offer to help the team by waiving.

Edmonton has been trying that model out for years. It can be entertaining as times.
We picked the Sedins at #2 and #3 and they were the nucleus of a SCF team with 2 President's Trophies. Unfortunately I think you're first idea was correct (ie that we'd need a couple top 5 picks). You'd need some very savvy drafting to build a contender with mid-to-late 1st round picks alone.
I'd be ok with dumping vets for prospects or picks and giving their roster spots to rookies and see how that goes. The team as it is right now is stuck in no-man's land IMO. |

Is there anyone y'all would like to OS?
Personally I wouldn't mind snagging Galchenyuk from MTL |

Offer sheets black ball you as a GM. I like Galchenyuk but I highly doubt he goes anywhere. I heard talk of him getting the C. |

I don't think Edmonton has tried that to be honest, they rid themselves of any veteran presence, which the Canucks won't completely do, that's the difference. You're not going to see a complete tank, but rather a step back. |

Vrbata is a 30 goal scorer that can play defence. Higgins is next. |

I agree, but there aren't too many examples of that working. Detroit's been trying to retool on the fly for some time but haven't gotten anywhere near contender status.
IMO this model will cause us to lose more years. |
