The troubling thing is I don't think this team has improved (near term or long) after any of those trades. Just "not having them here" is perhaps a reward in itself for a single player but 3? And including Garrison, 4?
In the meantime that savvy trader Sweeney in BOS, the laughing stock of the NHL on draft day, gets a 1st rounder for Martin Jones - a way back backup behind arguably the league's best defense. Unlike Lehner ("he's out in the East, teams don't know Lack out East) it was San Jose that gave up that 1st for Jones. - AlexF
What are you going to do? We need the cap space and roster spots and every gm in the league knows it.
I'm thinking Higgins is a TDL chip. Hansen is such a low return they may just keep him in the line up for his versatility. He plays all 4 lines. - boonerbuck
I don't have a problem with either player when they're not playing over their heads.

Ottawa had 3 signed goalies on NHL contracts and managed to not only get a 1st but also offload a useless contract (Legwand). Boston has Tukka Rask and Malcolm Subban waiting in the wings. Every GM knew they needed to move a goalie either now or soon.
You think we're the only team attempting to trade players we need to move?
Benning: “We’re going to look at some options on defence (in free agency) and we’ll see where it goes,” said Benning. “I think if we can add another defenceman with mobility, one who can transition the puck so we spend less time in our own end, that would be the No. 1 thing for me.”
With Bieksa gone, he already accomplished part of that.

Looks like he wants a puck-mover...there's only a few and they'll all get big money. Unless they think a player like Matt Irwin could be that guy.

He's not that guy. Apart from Mike Green or Sekera we'd have to trade for a puck-mover with any sort of value. Which, by the way, could be what he means. Most teams that sign player to July 1 contracts regret it pretty soon afterwards.

We are not going to compete for a cup so don't sign anyone, play the kids and entertain us. Move players at TDL.
I would have never taken you as a GoT kind of guy. Surprising.
Best show on TV. - bloatedmosquito
I read the books as well and there are some shorts of side stories from earlier times in the realm as well that I listened to on audio books. I'm not a huge fantasy novel fan but it's hard to find a more complex story than GoT. It's just too bad HBO has totally feminized the story for their own agenda. I agree though, still the best show on TV.

I think t is a good strategy to sign one player a season that you can quickly move for a pick. Two year deals like Vrbada during a rebuild turns into prospect depth if you collect enough picks. GMs have been successful doing this.

no contest. - anavar
Season 5 was a blur. I was just easing into it before I realized it was episode 8 and then the last two shows were epic.
Nobody has produced a show like that where most of the main characters are dispatched. Breaks every rule of conventional television. I hope this show and others like true detectives, house of cards, etc change the rules forever. Our TVs were literally turning into poop boxes.

I agree about the female characters rising to the top but for the first 3 seasons most of the female characters were (frank)ed into the dirt. I have no problem with it being their turn to cause some damage for a few seasons.

Totally agree. I read the books pre-show as well.
In the first season I thought the show did an excellent job bringing it to the screen. The next few seasons went rather wayward from the original story for no apparent reason other than ratings boosting, but were still solid. This past season was a turd IMO, total fan fiction. There almost isn't a single storyline that isn't changed for pure shock value, and the books had plenty going on already.
As they say, don't read the books before the movie.

Brien never fights the Hound let alone kill him in the books. He gets mortally wounded in the tavern scrap. All the graphic gay love is not in the novels.
It takes Martin 5-6 years to write one of these novels but the show is getting ahead of where the books are already. I hope HBO isnt going to influence the way the later novels would have came out.
The books are written totally different than your typical novel. There is no central character. Each chapter is named after the character it involves and written with their perspective I guess you would call it.
Something you dont get in the show is the hilarious sarcastic thoughts of Tyrion after every comment someone makes or Cersei's evil chilling thoughts before every sentence she speaks. You can't pull that off on the screen. You are not in the mind of the tv character.

That fight was pretty epic though. With the exception of Shawshank Redemption, the book is always better than the movie, but GoT does a pretty good job translating a complex story.
