It's easier to play well when there are 2 teams in your division that are purposely tanking.

He also lead Binghampton to the Calder cup with a .939 sv %

True, but when not even the guys who make lists that are a bit crazy have a guy like Senyshen rated as a first rounder then I'd say it's a long shot. Barzal and Connor are universally viewed as better prospects.
It's not even close to being the same as Hodgson vs Beach or Hodgson vs Kassian. - Nucker101
What would be interesting is if someone could get the team lists of their rankings.
We have all these lists, some are generated by scouting groups, media, media compilations, bloggers averaging other lists out, etc...
Would love to see the 30 different lists of teams on how they ranked prospects through their own scouting departments. So many perspectives.

We have been hearing lately how the Canucks passed on Beech to draft Hodgson, after a year or two, it looked like the Canucks made the right decision, now it looks like Hodgson may have not been the best choice either.
This drafting stuff takes a while to shake out before any conclusions should be reached. Very tricky business. - hillbillydeluxe
At what point now can we say the Canucks won the Kassian/Hodgson trade? Not yet despite the buy out on Hodgson? I guess we'll have to see how this year pans out for Kassian.
Yeah that transition to Nonis hurt. The best move that Nonis made Keenan actually made for him. - whosyodaddy
I'll follow it up with also his best draft was immediately after Burke was released and Nonis admitted they stayed the course. It was bust city after that.

Hodgson being way overpaid shadows the fact he's been a better offensive player in his career. He left the Canuck's with a decent rookie year, holding the 3rd line and QBing the 2nd PP unit. He then goes to the Sabres and plays the 2nd line and finishes second in scoring. Following year he spends most of the time on the 1st line, finishes 1st in scoring iirc. Played for team Canada at the worlds...
His defensive game led to a melt down with Nolan and Hodgson's salary cannot be justified. For the same money as Kassian it doesnt look so bad. He also outlasted Nolan.

I think if Kassian contributes on a regular basis this season or is moved and we get assets back, I think we won that trade. But this is if Hogson doesn't have a bounce back season.
If Hodgson bounces back, it could be argued that Buffalo won the trade but mismanaged the asset.
