Well Boston got a 2016 2nd rounder and Mirco Mueller.
If this is true, as it hasn't been confirmed..... Benning is looking like a damn amateur.
 - classic321
Please explain to me how Lack's value and what other GM's are willing to pay for him is JB's fault?
People have to realize that the likelihood that Benning is turning down 1st round picks for Lack because his heart is set on a 3rd and 7th is ridiculous.

Or we were underpaid
 - classic321
I disagree.
Sj/Wilson obviously knew that Lack was on the market and I assume negotiations/tire kicking took place. Had they offered remotely close to that, I think Lack goes to SJ. The fact that he got traded to Carolina means that the offers just weren't there for Lack.
In my opinion, all the teeth gnashing about Lack is just the carry over of frustration over the Miller signing. I am one of those that am still somewhat ticked that Miller was signed (especially for those terms).
However, at some point, we have to set our disagreement over that signing aside and look at the Lack trade rationally.
Everyone in the league knew that Lack was for sale. He was traded for a 3rd and 7th.
That is not undervalued or overvalued. That is market valued.

(frank)in mind-boggling that people actually think SJ offered Benning this and he turned it down, or so they make it seem. SJ obviously weren't interested in Eddie Lack and neither was anyone else around the league except Carolina. |

Benning will do the standard cover your ass when talking about the trade.

The GM's around the league don't view Eddie Lack like the homers in Vancouver do - this is clear and painfully obvious. - LeftCoaster
I was screaming at the radio listening to the idiots speak after they interviewed Benning. Everyone seems to think he was the better goalie, less money blah blah blah.
He wasn't the be all end all. Overvalued to the point of idiocy. |

I'm actually a fan of Jones but have no idea why SJ paid this much. |

Yeah, he's a solid goalie but I don't think anyone viewed him as a legit starter that they feel comfortable with. Seems like he was valued as a goalie who can split starts effectively. |

Yup.
It's not even going that slow. Garrison and Kesler were dealt and now it looks like Bieksa is gone. This is about as fast as it gets in the salary cap era. Anyone expecting 3 or 4 big trades in one summer is playing too much NHL 15 or just doesn't completely understand the NHL. - Nucker101

1000000000% Agree. Lack is not that solid. Will be interesting to see how exposed he gets in Carolina |

Well sJ didn't want to trade theirs and even if the Edmoton rumours are true, they were offering a late 2nd which was only a handful of spots ahead of CAR's 3rd. |

I think that he gets traded to Detroit for a 3rd (possibly a 2nd). While I agree that waiting until the TDL would net a better return, I think the roster and cap space is as valuable at the moment.
Which brings me to your blog: It aligns with my thinking so I'm going to say that it's brilliant! The only quibble I have is with your opening sentence, "To put it frankly, the Canucks defense is about as mediocre and unexciting you can get."
Mediocre and unexciting is hugely overrating them. Quit being such a homer dude - RealityChecker

I fully dont understand the goalie market at this point. Id Lehner was the worst of the bunch available and got the most return. I like Jones too but I dont see how the other 3 younger goalies get basically triple what lack goes for... |

If I ever met Dave Pratt, as a larger person who fought a lot in his junior days, I'd probably go to jail. |

Lehner is 23 and already developed farther than all of the goalies available. Upside is high. Lehner was better than Lack imo. |

Boston got 2 first round picks for Lucic
THAT's how you get return for your players
5 first rounders in 2 years is a nice retool.

Yeah, the Lehner/Jones deals blow my mind. SJ especially might even finish in the bottom 10 again and there's a lottery now for the first 3 picks of the draft.
The Talbot and Lack deals were decent.
If the rumours are true about SJ offering their first year for Klein and Talbot then Wilson isn't going to last much longer in SJ. He's way too desperate. I assume Sharks ownership is also pushing for him to get them back into the playoffs since they spend a decent amount of money on the team and likely don't make much if they have zero playoff revenue. |
