I think he will stand pat unless there is a screaming deal out there.

Can't see Bieksa coming back, but we'll see I guess.

Miller wil be here the next 2 seasons. Book it.
- thundachunk

I would not be surprised (but definitely disappointed) if that was ultimately the case. It seems that Miller and Benning have man-crushes on each other. Not a good thing when trying to distance yourself from any sort of personal affiliation dynamic when in contract negotiations. I'm actually more surprised that Benning went on record to say it was one of his easiest negotations - and that, really, there was little negotiation to begin with

Do not be shocked if Bieksa, Vrbata, Miller are all still here by TDL...
- LordHumungous

Can't afford the cap space of bieksa at start of season. Benning would be a failure of a gm to keep him

I think for the most part you are correct but if we are way out of a PO spot by TDL Miller might be movable...

A /LOT/ is going to depend on how the economy and revenues are shaking out for the NHL and what the projected cap will be. If it goes up more than it did this year, I can see a team looking for a veteran goalie take a flyer on Miller at the TDL for just over a year left on his deal.

Miller is the organizations one and only proven NHL goaltender and you still don't want him there?

We need Miller to stay for this season but if we are done at TDL not only would we need to move him, very doubtful he would want to be here...
We need to be thinking well beyond Miller into the 4-5 year mark...

Maybe - but I feel the team needs him now more than ever, with Lack being gone, so they can bring Markstrom along at the proper rate.

I am thinking beyond his contract years, that's why he needs to stay, to allow Markstrom to continue his development.

Maybe after we get out of the goaltending drama, we may finally be able to address the numerous other serious positional, and contractual matters that plague this organization.

There is no drama? Like most teams, we have a proven starter and a good backup.

Hey if Markstrom falters at least we have a good market rate for a goalie!

....who has been in a steadily declining state the last few years. He's simply getting older and there has been a lot of mileage upon his body regardless, having played in a zero defensive system for the last number of years in Buffalo.

This year, we are obviously going with Miller (as there is no choice now) but it would be disappointing (not to mention frustrating) if he's still on the Canucks in 2016-2017

So who plays net in 16/17? Or you don't care, as long as Millers gone?

So you'd like to spend Millers salary on some defense so the team can remain in the 16 to 25 draft position?

I get a good laugh from reading the board... My avatar reflects what I think about the ownership group (past and present). Am i reasonable? time will tell.

Welcome, here's a beginner's quiz for us to get to know you better.

1. What do you think of Luca Sbisa and his contract?

2. Would you every consider or suggest waiving Kevin Bieksa?

3. How do you value Chris Tanev?
