He could well be. Maybe Fleischmann would be better... it's slim pickings at LW this year.

I still think Hextall has a couple moves yet to play this offseason.

Maybe if they can't get Del Zotto resigned they move him for something on the LW.

well the only youngster they traded in the years since that draft was jvr so you maybe erroneous in your thought process, sir.

What about All Stars Luke Pither, Mike Testwuide, Shane Harper, Matt Ford, and Harry Zolnerczierk? They still haven't recovered from those losses. And don't even get me started on the losses of Stefan Legein and Matt Clackson.

Anyone know who the reporter was who asked Sam Dove about Hakstol right after he was drafted?

Scott Laughton in my opinion still has a lot to prove within the top 9. I already had interest in Nazim Kadri but Sam Gagner would be as good within the same role. For me it's a no brainer to keep Gagner. What I'd like to know is, can the Flyers make any changes on July 1st as it stands?
- SuperSchennBros

Sure, but they're still a bit limited. I really want them to avoid FA for anything besides depth signings for cheap

It may be erroneus, but it fits right in with the Holmgren was a bad GM narrative. So why look at the small things?

when your team steps backwards every single year after a finals appearance for five years, directly due to bad trades and signings by said gm, id say thats not overlooking small things.

The small things was said in the context of saying that Holmgren would trade young players for veterans to win now, which on the whole is not entirely innacurate. The Flyers did a little of both, and they did trade draft picks a number of times, to try and bolster the team for a run. What is unfair is overlooking the good things Holmgren did as a GM, which a lot of it has set this team up for the future. Any objective viewpoint would look at both sides.
After the Cup finals loss in 2010, the Flyers radically changed direction by trading Richards and Carter, which most people loved the return. Injuries to Pronger also were a big factor.

That's the absolute truth. Yeah he made plenty of boneheaded moves, but he also made some great ones as well. Imagine if that bum Richards was still playing for us....

I would disagree that Lecavalier doesn't care about playing here. He wants to play here, and the key word is play. What he doesn't want, is to be a part time player or 13th forward.
- MJL

Maybe a poor choice of words. How about not wanting to play for Berube? Either way, should he play, he makes far too much money to be getting the ice time that he'll receive.

It absolutely does, no question about it. He built a team that went to the Cup Finals and numerous playoff appearances. He added key players that are currently on this team, including Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, Couturier, Raffl, MacDonald, Mason, as well as top prospects in Laughton, Morin, Gostisbehere, and Haag.

With any GM, you're just hoping to get at least a 60/40 split on good vs bad.

Homer was 40/60, at best.

The Flyers have around 6M of cap space available to them, they probably have 4-5M of off season exemption they can use, now that Pronger has been traded, and they also have the ability to make other moves, such as trading players, buying out Gagner, etc. If the Flyers want to be a player in Free Agency, they can be.

Clarke went to the podium and didn't even know the kids name. It's widely known that Holmgren ran that draft.

Great draft weekend for Philly. I think most of us wanted Provorov at #7, knowing the top 5 were set and NJ needed forward prospects. I was at a draft party surrounded by Sens fans, they were all pretty jealous about Provorov and...

Koneckny. He will prove to be a steal at #24, kid has great wheels (I don't care what Pierre and Button say), great vision and hockey IQ. He will take a few years to add muscle and adjust in the AHL after next season, but in 3-4 years we have a legit top-6 offensive threat to add to the mix.

Grossmann and Pronger's contract for Gagner and a pick is also a steal, even if Hextall buys him out. I'd rather keep him and try him on the wing, rather than over-pay for a mediocre LW in free agency. Contract year, he will prove some doubters wrong.

I like the depth Philly drafted, got some project goalies to work with. Laughton should start the year in the A again if we keep Gagner. Giroux, Couturier, Schenn should be our top 3 centres, with Gagner on one of their wings. Keep that 4th line together, it was great last year. Wouldn't mind trading L. Schenn as well, how much better is he than Manning for a 3rd pairing d-man? This Medvedev guy intrigues me, clearly signed him to play him. Let the D prospects grow in junior/AHL some more, patience will pay off.

Back to my summer.
