i don't think it's actually that bad.
grossman was 3.5
they got back a 3.2 and retained .5
so just .2M?

- nails

They took on 3.2 M for Gagner and retained 500K in the Grossmann deal. That's 3.7M. They removed 3M by trading Grossmann. That's a net gain of 700K

Assuming they keep Gagner and they lost the off season cap hit from the Pronger deal, so that helps...but yeah I see your point

He was asking without Pronger involved. Removing Pronger only really helps them in the off season, which is a big help for flexibility.

I think what he was originally saying is that the the Flyers lost 200k in cap space in the Grossmann/Gagner part of the transaction.

Had they kept Grossmann: 3.5 mil cap hit
Trading Grossmann, eating 0.5 mil, taking on Gagner's 3.2 mil: 3.7 mil cap hit
Net: 0.2 mil additional cap hit

I am pretty sure it is 200K.
before the trade, they had 6.9M in cap space. today they have 6.7M

before the trade, Grossman's cap hit was 3.5 and Gagner was 3.2.
if it was a straight up trade, the flyers would have gained 300K in cap space.
But they kept 500K of grossman, so 500-300=200

You are double counting the 500k here.

Before trade: Grossmann at 3.5 M

After trade: Gagner at 3.2 M + 500k retained = 3.7 M

Difference: 200k

Edit: I type too slow.

I would love for the Flyers to trade Streit (for picks or a cheap forward if possible).

Assuming they resign MDZ he'll take over Streit's 1st unit PP quarterbackery (which I know isn't as proven as Streit's). Can also experiment with Medvedev's ability at the point and see if MacDonald is at least serviceable. Also leaves room for the outside chance that one of Provorov, Morin or Ghostisbehere can get into the lineup and prove effective on the PP.

Well it's not physical conditioning and it may have an element of drugs in it, but that's not all of it.

It would have to be a very good return for me to be willing to trade Streit

I think I would wait on Streit. TDL move. probably a better return at that point in the season.
And until MDZ is signed, I don't know that they move anyone else of the back end

This goes back to last year when Lombardi had a talk with Richards about using the CBO on him. If it was drug related, one would think he would have been enrolled in a substance abuse program.

Yeah I'm thinking like a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd. Or a 1st, a 2nd and a bottom six forward.

My whole thing with Streit is will he be playing at the same level when the Flyers are more legitimate contenders in a few years. Streit's no spring chicken, so if a reasonable offer from him comes around I think Hexy really has to consider pulling the trigger on it.

Yeah I have to agree. He's certainly not fleet of foot. He puts up great PP numbers and does a great job there but it also doesn't hurt that guys like Simmonds, Giroux and Voracek are on the same unit.
