What exactly does that mean though, having their financial house in order? I don't want to be a team that has holes in it's lineup, while having unused cap space. Having that cap space is nice, what you do with it, is the key. - MJL
How do you like that.

I actually liked all three of their picks, it was the "in the first round" that was the issue. No way do you take Senyshyn that high I loved every time I saw that guy play for the Soo. He was buried a little on that team but he's still a second rounder. They could easily have traded back and grabbed additional picks and still gotten DeBrusk. That organization completely froze/panicked when the AZ pick fell through I think. - mayorofangrytown

So what's with this Richards ordeal and stop bullpoopting me there's no way the Bruins traded a 3rd for Rinaldo - Giroux_Is_God
Oh yeah. The Rinaldo thing happened.
And the Richards thing was that the Kings terminated his contract. No buy out. A termination on the grounds of material breach of contract (more: http://sports.yahoo.com/b...ttle-looms-194858267.html).
Which, really, could mean anything. |

Meaning that they have cap flexibility and don't have an inordinate number of contracts with excessive term and cap hits.
I'm fairly certain when the season starts, that we are not going to see the Flyers being closer to the salary floor than they are to the cap.
To me, Phaneuf's contract is one that I would avoid like the plague. Too long, too much money for a guy who is closer to the end of his career than to the beginning of his career.
I hope that clears things up a little. |

Legitimately the 3 best days in a very very long time for the Flyers
Potential Franchise dman
potential 1st line mini-grinder awesomeness
Trades 2 players who shouldnt be in the NHL and a retired dman for Sam Gagner, a 2017 3rd, and a 2016 4th or 2017 3rd
Holy poop. Just amazing. |

I'm just used to the Flyers giving up something like a 3rd to a team for taking a player like Rinaldo - sulshawn

at the fact that he signs his texts "Hexy". - hockeylover
My (frank)ing dad does that. He has a setting for a signature in his texts and at the end of every single text, it says
-Bob J ****** (last name)
630-***-****
Does he not realize people can see his number since he's texting them????

thats what blows my mind. if they were hell bent on the kids they selected, move back. but to stay where they did and pass up on the players they did baffles me a bit. |

since i've been alive this has never happened with us. This is new ground for me
And Oilers are my 2nd favorite team so that really explains everything... |

i have not backread but there is no way this Richards thing is not about drugs right? - Crimsoninja
I don't think there is any way it IS about drugs. If it were, they'd have to offer the behavioral program. I suspect it is about conditioning. But I'm not sure how you quantify it. He had promised to take conditioning seriously last off season. And when he showed up not in better shape they were pretty furious. It will be interesting to see it play out. |

That's exactly who I thought they were taking! When they took Debrusk I was thinking, well they could have traded back for that. When they took Senyshyn I started laughing.
I really like Senyshyn too. I may even like him more then DeBrusk since I think he could finish really high in OHL scoring this coming season but why you take that kid there is completely beyond me. No one was sniffing him until Saturday.
Of course, as much as everyone likes Konecney I would have sat on 29 tried to trade up with 61 and taken Merkley and maybe Kylington. That's just me. Konecney's my guy now. |

You know why it's such a horrible, horrible trade?
It isn't that Rinaldo is a fourth-liner with discipline issues. That's fine. Maybe you need a fourth-liner.
It isn't even that you gave up a third for a guy who has routinely been a healthy scratch. Hell, maybe you think you see something special.
It's the combination of those plus the fact that FA is LESS THAN 48 HOURS AWAY!
You can find a player like Zac Rinaldo in FA and not give up an asset, OR if you don't like anything you see, call the Flyers after you looked! You don't know what might shake free after that initial rush of movement -- maybe a team signs a guy and a player better than Rinaldo becomes redundant, and you can offer the third for that player!
There is no reason whatsoever to close that deal prior to FA -- none |

The decision is definitely going to court, and I would imagine the NHL is going to do their own due diligence. The question is, are the Kings free and clear of Richards' cap hit until a determination is made, or will they be forced to carry it.
The NHLPA will not be pleased, and I would imagine the Kings aren't exactly setting themselves up as a FA destination with a move like this. |

From what i read the recapture penalties now kick in which is 1.5 mil and some change, so they gained 4.4 mil of cap space. |
