Do you have any documentation that the Flyers have signed more players to 7+ year contracts than any other team in the league? - MJL
Chicago has 4 right now IIRC.

I don't think so, but who knows?
At least we have these last few days -- I mean, seriously
We know it's a new era if the Flyers keep a player like Sam Gagner for a season while jettisoning Zac Rinaldo |

I think its much worse than that.
I think we're freeing up all this cap space, putting the Flyers financial house in order for the first time since the salary cap era began, loading up on draft picks and home grown talent and THE (frank)ING WORLD IS ABOUT TO COME TO A CATACLYSMIC END.
Thats what I think.
Its probably time for me to start drinking again.

Won't be shocked to see Vinny head to the desert once his bonus installment is paid on Wednesday by the Flyers. |

What exactly does that mean though, having their financial house in order? I don't want to be a team that has holes in it's lineup, while having unused cap space. Having that cap space is nice, what you do with it, is the key. |

Much better to have to sign guys to one day contracts in the midst of a playoff race than have unused cap space... |

The Lucic deal was fine -- maybe they retained a little too much salary, but the return was ok
But the Hamilton deal was straight garbage, everyone knows it
No one knows for certain how draft picks are gonna go, but they certainly didn't do themselves any favors with the fans by going off the board twice in three picks - AllInForFlyers
I actually liked all three of their picks, it was the "in the first round" that was the issue. No way do you take Senyshyn that high I loved every time I saw that guy play for the Soo. He was buried a little on that team but he's still a second rounder. They could easily have traded back and grabbed additional picks and still gotten DeBrusk. That organization completely froze/panicked when the AZ pick fell through I think. |

Isn't next year's draft deep too? Bruins may be even worse next year. That pick could be like 65-75. Nice work |

Just under 22% of all third rounders chosen 1995-2006 had even a modest NHL career.
Yes, even a small chance like that is better than nothing, but it's not highway robbery from that perspective.
To me the magic is that ZR is someone else's problem, and frankly, I'd have been happy with zero return. - Scoob
That just means he gets to lay hits on Flyers now... |

That's what it felt like, like they didn't have a feel for how their draft board could be manipulated because they acquired the picks and then felt they had to use them
Like you said: it's not that the guys are bad players; they are prospects
But if a guy is a consensus late first or second-rounder, you have to have the courage to slide back a bit, if not all the way, to where reasonable projections have the player going
Not only do you acquire more assets, but you give yourself more time to assess what the (frank) you are doing |

So what do we think, the 2018-19 season Rinaldo scores a backbreaking playoff goal against Philly en route to a Stanley Cup? - eayost
Book it, or takes off Giroux's head to end his career. |

I'm just used to the Flyers giving up something like a 3rd to a team for taking a player like Rinaldo |
