My thing would be that if conditioning was the reason then why not suspend him before or during the season for failure to follow the team rules. He played 53 games so the conditioning couldn't have been that big of a factor.

If it is for conditioning I would hope they have a whole lot of metrics with goals, targets, results, etc.

Imho, it's not conditioning. As you say, doing so opens up a huge can of worms that will get teams out of cap trouble in a real hurry.

I mean, we all know that some guys have come into camp out of shape before, and that there are physicals and things

But are there actual numbers that he/others have to meet? Like timed runs, or complete a set number of laps at a specific time?

Would something like that be player-specific? Like, would a skater like Wheels, who is slow, be expected to meet the same kinds of standards as a guy like, say, Michael Grabner?
