Gagner is a valuable NHL forward; keep him.

Hopefully, VLC resolves itself with mutual termination and VDV and White get re-upped. Gives us 13 forwards going into camp with Laughton, Cousins, NAK, etc all challenging Rinaldo for a spot.

Without watching him and looking in-depth, I think that the remarks aboiut his skating and his speed can be looked at individually. A player can be fast, having a higher than average top speed. However, things like turning, accelerating, crossing over, etc. all come into "skating" that don't have to do with speed (although they can affect it).

Hopefully we have the room and can deal a couple more contracts. Need to move a D man or 2 and if we can agree on early termination with VLC I say keep him.
- section32

Saw a report earlier flyers would like to move l schenn + vlc than they'd add 1 winger and 1 back up goalie while resigning zepp (2 way) vv and white. And hextall xmas list would be complete. Still leaves 8 nhl defenseman

No one should have to challenge Rinaldo for a spot in an NHL lineup.

If there is ANY league interest in Gagner, which I have to assume there is, then I'd just flip him for some asset, even if it's a 7th.

Keep him, buy him out, I'm fine with either.

I say keep him unless you need the money for something specific this year. Otherwise, he's off the books at the end of the season or is traded at the deadline for more assets.
Why deal with more dead money next year, even if it is minimal, if you don't have to?

He's worth taking a flyer on this year since he's already part of the team, just don't extend him for 5 years just because you already traded for him :p

His cap hit is already lower than some of the 3rd/4th line players on the team.

"It depends on what point they were trying to make. If their point was he's a poor skater, then sure, they're wrong. If however, their point was that there are aspects of his skating that he could work on, they are most likely correct.

It's going to be a few years before Konecny makes an impact at the NHL level, but he was a steal at #24"

Maybe Frank Seravalli can write a piece clarifying their points of view. Everyone here seems to be in agreement that Frank writes clearly and concisely.

I said it half as a joke, but really, the guy has no place in an NHL lineup unless we want to either a) work on our in-game penalty killing or b) injure an opposing player with no regards for any consequences. Other than that, he is not an NHL-caliber hockey player.

I was away in Key West and got back Friday.

1. Loved the draft. Glad they got Provorov. He was my top choice.

2. It was nice to see them be able to move some money in Pronger and Grossmann deals. I still think more moves will come as FA moves along and teams miss out on guys and positions they want.

3. It's nice to see Hextall really bring a new direction to this franchise. Can't wait to see what else happens.

Anyone hear the scouting and media reports about Sam Gagner, being unable to play center effectively and being a high draft pick who didn't live up to expectations, and immediately think of Brayden Schenn?

No? Just me?

He's not worth a buy out what would we save if we waived him with intent to send to AHL

If they do keep Gagner, I'm not sure where you play him. I don't want to mess with the Raffl-G-Jake line and I really like the way Read-Coots-Schenn looked going down the stretch.

I guess that leaves him with either:

Umberger-Gagner-Simmonds
or
Gagner-Laughton-Simmonds

I agree 100%

He has a great work ethic apparently, so let him be a model for hard work in Lehigh.

46.7% face offs. 15 goals and 42 points on arizona. Not a single other forward broke 40 points for Arizona. He's offensively gifted defensively meh. Edmonton had some skill upfront he was able to produce. With descent linemates he can produce offensively.

I'm sure he would be on either the 4th or 3rd line to start and see if he can prove himself. I like that last option as the 3rd line

He, Mathers, and Stortini can play on a line together. Mathers and Stortini just wait for Zac to do something stupid, and then pummel the other 4 guys when they all go after Zac as his victim is lying in a pool of his own blood.

If Holmgren was still the GM the Flyers probably would've traded the 7th overall + 3 1sts for Chara and the Bruins would still have Hamilton and have added Provorov.

Based on potential alone, as no one knows for sure how things will work out, I think the Flyers had their best draft day in more than a decade.

To get rid of Grossmann's contract and Prongers contract without taking a horrible long term contract back was divine intervention.

Now we just have to hope the promising prospects deliver on their promise.

Bobby Mac said Konecny said was a "great" skater right after that puzzling bit of banter between Button and Pierre. Konecny fell to due to concerns about his size and injury history, not his skating.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuB_7JuJMWA

Button conflates the skating ability of Merkley and Konecny even though Konecny is a significantly superior skater. Just google Merkley skating and Konecny skating and you'll the scouting reports are not close in that aspect. Honestly I think Button got a bit confused.

That's almost exactly what I think of, except that Schenn, when he's on, is a much better player.

Then again, didn't Gagner have that 8-point game a while back?
