That information is readily available, and widely known. A 3 second google search resulted in numerous sources, including below.

So the problem with the Streit signing is something that hasn't happened yet, and may or may not happen?

A GM does not personally scout every player on his own. There are scouts behind every draft including the most recent. By your standard, Hextall didn't make the picks. It is widely known that Holmgren ran that draft, and made the final decision. The same way as Hextall made the final decisions this past weekend.

You asked for one source, I gave it to you.

In the hockey world, is not a widely accepted opinion overall that Holmgren sucked as a GM. Maybe it is, in the small slice of regular HB posters, but that is neither here nor there. It's not backed up by the fact that he's not GM anymore. Coaches, GM's get fired, resign, move on to other positions all the time. Doesn't mean they weren't good at thier jobs.

Top minute defenseman, one of the top point producers among defenseman in the NHL, and very good on the PP. I can speculate that the Flyers would be a weaker team without Streit.

Your turn.

they'd have valuable cap room and flexibility and still be missing the playoffs without him. By the time this team is competitive again they may likely be hamstrung, yet again by a player with a big contract making minimal impact.no need to have signed him.

The first line of this article sounds familiar....

"There probably isn't any one player on the Tampa Bay Lightning roster that draws more vitriol than Matt Carle."

They may be, then again, they may not be. Again, bringing up issues that have not occured, and may not. Fact is, that Streit has had an impact on the Flyers, and it was a good signing to this point. As far as looking into the future and speculating, the Flyers could in the future trade Streit, and gain a valuable player asset moving forward, as well as gaining cap space.

I don't subscribe to that opinion at all. He is responsible for the 2010 run as well as the bright future of our team sans-2015 draft. If you weighed his good moves and bad moves on a scale, it'd be considered a good run. That being said, anything that doesn't bring a cup is considered a failure. But saying that a GM failed vs. saying he sucked are two different things.
