I think it would be awkward in the dressing room otherwise. Knowing your time is limited might be hard to give it all.

Yeah, I agree. Maybe Jim has to eat salary now to off load him.

I wonder if the draft is still Benning's favourite day of the year?

His salary is 2.5, do you mean eat cap space?

No one NHL-ready was available at 23. It's all about upside and he has the potential to be a 6'1" top 6 sniper.

Beleskey is going to be overpaid, but I really like him. Not a Green fan.

The question being, to what (ridiculous) extent (in terms of being overpaid). He's already turned down $4 x 4 and seems to be looking at $5+ which is just insane (his current cap hit is $1.4, I believe, so he would be looking at basically a 500% salary increase).

I like that he's a fairly decent player and has a lot of versatility in terms of where and what he can do, but if he gets more than $5 we are going to be seeing a work stoppage sooner than later. We're talking about almost Sedin-type dollars for a guy that has had ONE twenty goal season (and that was this past year - his goal total for the past five years is around 50 goals, for @#$@# sakes - averaging about 10 goals per year. Is that worth $5+ with term?

I'm guessing first time in years that we will see a player out of the first round make teams next season.

Does anyone else find it interesting that Benning kept commenting on the importance of taking the best player available in the first round? Did it have anything to do with last years draft?? Just throwing it out there...

Very disappointed in the return for Eddie Lack, he's more than capable of playing 30-35 games this year..... And showing he can do 1A1B situation. I think Markstrom will continue to disappoint like he has done his entire career. The goalie coach situation could obviously pay off unlike Florida but I have my doubts with him.

well. if you think any gm besides gillis was your worse gm, there's no point continuing these talks.

even the fans here that thought lack was going to get you 9th overall can accept gillis set this team back 10 years.

nice try, enjoy having miller in net

Can't wait til the Leafs hire Gillis in a couple of years.

Meh, we got the 66th pick for a RFA signing that is 27 and will at best be a split starter the remainder of his career. We had to move a goalie so it's not like it was a luxury trade. I wouldn't have given more for Lack.

Miller gets hurt.... Lack can carry the load... markstrom is a giant ? Not impossible to make it work but it's a gamble. I would've kept him into the season and traded if a goalie went down... If not at the deadline.

So you would have carried 3 goalies on the NHL roster in case one got hurt? None of those guys were gonna clear waivers.

I think when you don't have as many picks it's just better to take BpA. Unlike boston who had three in a row and took 1 out 3 that belong there.

Sometimes some of the better players on the team need to be traded to make the team better as a whole. Chevy in winnipeg is showing the league how to get it done.

Boeser and Briebois were both 2nd on my BPA lost when they were picked and the later round selections seem decent enough so considering the picks they had and who was available if give them a solid "B"
