That would almost be like a guy who female doged about Benning for two months solid and runs off to Flames thread for weeks, then comes back and kisses Bennings ass - VANTEL
1) I still maintain Sbisa/Miller deals are horrible, and I have yet to suggest that Benning is a good GM but he handled himself well the past 2 days with the draft and moving Lack instead of hoping some team will suddenly offer him a great trade
2) the flames thing was a joke

I know nothing about our draft picks this year. I do know I never heard once anyone on here say"Krishner, I hope we draft Bowser" I will wait passing judgment on any picks.
I do know I am tired of this core and can't wait for new faces - VANTEL
I posted my top 30 before the draft and had him like 18th. |

The Flame thing you were gone for two weeks. Good joke
I don't care where you sit with your opinion about Benning , but if you com in here laughing at posters for something you have been ranting about for two months ,expect backfire |

We both have felt this way for a few years. Hell, just a few months ago almost everyone believed that Bieksa would retire a Canuck... never waive. Now he waived for a team we hear. That alone should be encouraging news. Bieksa is willing to go... and will be gone. Being here in June doesn't mean being here in Oct... we just don't get anything out of this draft for him unfortunately.

I do remember that song.
I invest every day to hockey every year . I love my Canucks and I know what I like about them and I know what I hate about them. To me this change can't come quick enough.
I love the new picks over the last cole of years and I want change.

I can't quite you Vantel but yes I took it far on purpose because I knew it'd annoy you guys
And I find it more reasonable to defend Benning for today and yesterday than the fans who defended the Sbisa contract. Benning had full control over Sbisa as a RFA...he couldn't put a gun to Buffalo's head and force them to give us more for Lack or force SJ to give #39 for Bieksa. |

Hawks had the worst draft followed by the Leafs. |

Did anyone see the photo of bieksa as a kid wearing a sharks jersey??
Obviously he likes them. Maybe why he waived to go there. He always had big games against SJ.
Similar to bertuzzi playing against detroit. Huge games.....he was wings fan. thats obvious |

than the fans who defended the Sbisa contract. - Nucker101
Dont recall that, I recall people ripping sbisas contract. How it could be defended is beyond me.
He did lead the team in hits by a long shot though. Maybe shouldve been a grinding winger then. Wouldn't be the 1st D to be converted to forward historically.

I was very impatient when the cup window was open and Gillis started trading away offense and downgrading. That was when things needed to move swiftly and could not afford mistakes or steps backwards. We are in a position now where we have time and room for mistakes as long as we don't get bogged down on long term contracts on middle to older age players.
The Canucks will be players at the TDL I think. Hammer(1st or 2nd) Higgins(3rd) Burrows(2nd).. Vrbada(1st) will all draw attention. If the Canucks suck... we may be rich in the next draft.

Nobody liked it, but people said it was decent/okay when really he just immediately became a cap dump with negative value. |

I've had a few hours to think about things, and this is where I stand now. I think Benning isn't a GM, he's an assistant GM who's focus is on amateur and minor pro scouting/evaluation. He needs someone who has experience dealing with the old boys club that is the NHL and can advise him properly. Trevor Linden isn't that guy, until he was hired as President, the only real NHL managerial experience he's had was being President of the NHLPA which could be held against him by some of the older GMs.
Gillis left the team in a mess, but Benning hasn't done much to really fix that mess except to rebuild our AHL development system. This is great, because eventually we'll see results there (and have) with players being brought up in our system to play on the big club. My problem is, I think he can get us to the point where we have a core that could potentially get past the point of being a playoff bubble team. I'm just not sure he'll be able to take us to that next step of being a contender.
I guess I'm one of those people that do not want to see a tanking rebuild because I don't see us being able to compete when it's our turn against Edmonton and Calgary. I feel like it's the late 80's all over again when we were in the Smythe Division and Gretzky et. al and Niewendyk and all in Calgary were schooling us every year and winning Cups and all. |
