Would have been a horrible pick over Boeser and he went early in the 2nd. Brisbois isn't that far behind him.

He's young. I like that factor.

For the sake of positivity, what happens if we are actually very competitive next year and end up being a virtual lock for a play-off spot. What is the strategy then? does Benning still make some core-based trades? i.e. would they still ship Bieksa out? and then there is the FA factor in all of this. It would be interesting to be a fly on a wall in some of the owner's and managers meetings, to get the real low-down on both short term and longer term philosophies. Thus far, it's a bit of a hodge podge of perspectives - there seems to be a little contradiction from one move to the other in terms of some of the decisions made
- Zogg

I think you have to move Bieksa (if possible) regardless otherwise he walks as a UFA at the end of next year and you get nothing back. Knowing he's near the end of the line he is going to be looking to cash in on a short term contract so probably won't stay with the Canucks.

I meant later on if we traded for a second. I wasn't targeting anyone in the first round. I didn't know enough about the 15-30 picks

For me I thought the NYI had the best draft, followed by Columbus.

Jets kicked ass too.

And already a captain, very rare for a guy that young to be a junior captain. Plus his numbers took a hit because he played on a last place team. Some guy at HF did a breakdown on how he's close to Provorov in terms of % of points on his team, obviously he's not nearly as good as Provorov but that's an encouraging stat.

The jets had some good picks. It easy to look at teams who drafted high and say they got it right. I'm quite interested in the Czech and Russian players and are they able to come over and play in Utica.
- manvanfan

Edmonton had some great scouting picking up that McDavid kid.

Don't think we had the ammo unless Bonino or Vrbata were dealt.

Yeah, his team also sucked but I like the fact he was captain as well. Compared to having a guy bordering on overaged it's nice to have a guy nearly a year younger get drafted.

Agreed, more room for growth, physically and skill-wise.

Got to stop losing players to contracts running out, no more trading draft picks for older players. Need to learn that as players decline to sell. It's a business.

Usually doesn't happen until 1 year before they become overage players, especially on a team already short on talent.

Exactly. Plus, it buys us an extra year before we become too disappointed.

Maybe the Douglas Murray of the AHL.

I hope I'm wrong as much as anyone. Would be thrilled if he became a NHL'er.
