Here is the Master Plan:

1. Bieska and Markstrom to San Jose for 9th round pick.

2. 9th round pick plus Virtenen and Burrows to Phoenix for #3 pick and 6th pick.

3. Order 100 pizza and have them delivered to Brian Burke.

4. 6th pick to Boston for permission to talk with Lucic

5. Lucic signed an extension using the money saved from Burrows.

6. Use top 3 pick for a D man to replace Bieska.

Open a bud-light lime while eating nachos on a patio listening to Bruce Cockburn.

Done.

If this Lucic rumor proves to be true I am going to lose my mind.

What he would cost (1st and prospect) is such a terrible move for the canucks to make.

They'd have to move salary to acquire him, they don't have enough cap space to just take him on.

Over the course of a season, anybody could be traded for the right situations/price. I dont think at the start of the season anyone would take him and his contract, no guarentees of either but it would be your best shot at keeping all three as per his scenario
- WhiteLie

His contract is not bad. Would it be nice if it was a couple hundred grand less? Of course. What player wouldn't you want at a couple hundred grand (or more) less? If Miller was on waivers (not even sure they can put him there or not) there would be a lineup of teams trying to pick him up.

Markstrom is an RFA, he won't re-sign in Vancouver if both Lack & Miller are still here. Which means you lose him for nothing to Europe, that's poor asset management.
- LeftCoaster

That too, my point is that its over for one of Lack or Markstrom. And they should be surprised if its for a single 2nd round pick. The Canucks need to get what they can now and get more involved elsewhere to improve the team

It's more that we don't have the assets that Boston is going to want that we'd be willing to give up for him. Cap space isn't as much of an issue.

Your plan includes 9th round picks that don't exist anymore...

No but if you spent all summer constructing your team, then a player with a $6m cap hit becomes available, it would require some adjustments at the beginning of the season. More than likely you entered the season comfortable with your tandem, or at the very least be willing to start the season to see how they perform before bringing in reinforcements. Timing would be everything on it, which is why I would assume he would be easier to move later in a season than the very beginning.

All in all, I dont mind his contract, nor the value. I actually like Miller and was happy to have him brought it. I just think its a waste to fantasize about moving him when its pretty clear that they arent going to any time soon

I agree... plus he's a giant D-bag. I'm not so sure Burrows and Lucic could coexist. Maybe we trade Vrbata for Lucic to make Burrows waive his NTC
