Interesting logic. Fine, Booner is the Sbisa of fisherman. I'm John Scott. The net doesn't even need to be there. - CubanBuffet

Well good luck... hope you hit the bite. It's a good time to troll around some dragonfly nypmhs or float a dry. - boonerbuck
Is the heat going to effect anything? It's going to be hot as fck up there this weekend, and probably into next week too. Badger's a pretty big deep lake, but it's still. |

I could have been technical and said "get out there and find where those size 14's are popping and run a deep line with a chromie down into the thermocline and see if you can get into any of those triploid pennask that love chironomids so much. If you dial it in, the indicator should be down pretty quickly you can gun sling two sticks and be into double headers double time... match body size and ribbing... don't worry about the gills,,, they see the chrome and think gassed up bug and go for the grab".

I'm the Matt Beleskey of fisherman
I'm like Cuban a little earlier when HE was being a Beleskey but then caught himself in time and came back down to more realistic expectations shortly thereafter |

Heat and high pressure drives the fish down into the deep holes. If badger doesnt have anything over 30-40 feet, then it's not hard to find the fish but in big lakes it's difficult.
You guys probably troll gear which I never really learned to do effectively so my help is limited to where to look for advice. I was a river and ocean fishermen before I moved into the interior and started specializing in stillwater fly fishing.

I've caught over 20 rainbows this big(9 pounds) to 12 pounds this spring. This one was caught 2 weeks ago at the tail end of this season's brown bomber hatch. I had to fish at 4000 feet to find this late hatch and they don't really hatch much higher than that.

I can honestly say that I have never even seen a trout that big, let alone caught one. One day I'm going to have to buy you a beer and get you to tell me what's what.

to late - A_SteamingLombardi
You won't find the flies I use anywhere. I use my own creations.
I think it may be late for the big chironomids. It will be small ones just a couple of MM long now and really deep. It takes years to learn how to fish this way. A couple of years just to learn to cast with 26 foot leaders etc... then tying super tiny flies. The early season hatch is in shallow water and any idiot can toss a indicator with 7 foot leader... they take them close to the boat... inside of 20 feet is very average.
Best to get a big dragonfly nymph down in the 20-30 foot range and troll it around pausing and speeding up once in a while. Try and be near bottom... try a slower troll with a scud and mak sure you feel bottom tap once and a while... you would need a type 6 sinking line most likely.
