I think it is because Lack is the best return. I would prefer they move Miller and eat salary, as suggested. It has to be about the pick. With all the talk about rebuild/retool, I think we are already in year 2 of the process of replenishing the cupboards. I think JB really wants as many picks as he can get but is still in it for the playoffs.
With JB's history with Boston, I think they were reluctant to turn the reins over to Rask when he was ready, might be similar to what is happening here. Anyway, with Miller, even though he has 2 years left, maybe he would sign for another if Markstrom wasn't ready?
I want to keep Lack, I think he has more upside, him and Miller are close now, and is more durable. But either way, we have bigger issues than who will be in net. - hillbillydeluxe
Miller is one Janek Hansen hit away from making Markstrom and Canata your tandem , if Lack gets traded |

Help me understand why so many want lack gone? Is it because lack can fetch the best return? And that return is a 2nd round pick? - bloatedmosquito
I like Lack over Miller, But I think Marky has the better upside after he gets the same chance in the NHL that Lack did. |

I wouldn't be against keeping both Miller and Lack for 2 more seasons, or Miller is traded away at the tdl of his last season, might even want to leave sooner if Lack is extended...
Hopefully Demko will be in the AHL by then or we have to pickup another ahl, fringe nhl guy to play on the farm... |

I agree the canucks seem to find gems in the goalie department but it's keeping them after they develop them that has me wondering wtf is going on.
We as a fan base never seem satisfied with our team's goaltender situation. We are so restless and I don't get it. Like to see some stability in that area for a change. - bloatedmosquito
Lack is 27 and in a few days he's a pending UFA looking for raise. I don't see why he's any *key* part of a youth movement that has Markstrom behind him then Demko down the road from there. Maybe fans will start to realize that it's just part of asset management... but I doubt it.
Nothing is without risk but this is the direction of the youth movement imo. Move the GT who is coming into his own unfortunately at the wrong time for this organization,,, play short contract vets til the next younger GT is ready while developing the next GT in the AHL. By the time Demko is backing up Markstrom or whom ever the starter is at that point, many of the next generation of skaters should be coming into their own as well. Markstrom is trade bait eventually and well have another decent GT prospect by then probably. The cycle of panic about having to trade one will always be front and center because it's the same fan base fretting. These GT's come and go and help us build but the fans remain the same.

I don't think it is a big deal which one goes, except ideally in regards to asset management, if you could move Miller for the same return as Lack, wouldn't you move Miller and save cap with Lack's salary?
But if JB is true to his word, Lack or Markstrom is on the move, and we move whoever nets the best return. I can live with that.

If Canucks are trading Lack it has to be for something more than the 35 th pick anything less just walk away - VANTEL
If Benning has half of a brain he would realize the boat is sinking and that pieces should be sold now for value instead of waiting and prolonging the rebuild longer. I would be trying to trade Miller instead of Lack but that shows they believe Markstrom has a higher ceiling or just plain value than Lack.
Benning should be doing everything possible to get as many picks as possible for this draft and the next. The Sedins should be dealt this summer or at the deadline for an Iginla type return of a late first and a few mid level prospects. The D-men as well. Horvath and Shinkaruk are key (and Virtanen) with Tanev, Sbisa, and Edler round back. Wouldn't be surprised to see 1 of those dealt as well for high end young prospects like we did with Myers and even McNabb.
Just my 2 cents. Do it now because we suffered foe extra years of trying to win some games with an aged or decimated team. |

I don't think his game is meant for playoff hockey. When it gets tighter checking he is pretty average.
he is not good along the boards, and he isn't some amazing passer.
It's pretty damn obvious where the puck is going on the PP. |

The problem is that our defense is always so bad, our goalies never truly get a chance to shine - Retinalz
Which comes back to a large part of this fan base always blaming GT's for everything and poopting on them.
Cloutier lets in that center ice goal but in the games after that, the Canucks couldnt score worth poop and Cloutier was not the reason. Fans argue with me that it was the reason because they were so let down over that bad goal that it cost them the series.... but you have bigger problems if your series all goes to poop because of a bad goal in a *previous* game...
Our horrible leadership over the years has been more responsible for the playoff fails but in Vancouver... most fans can't see past the goalies.

No one will take Ryan Miller.
I'd put him in the category of Mike Richards, we would have to include a decent draft pick, and literally trade for a 7th rounder.

I would be semi-ecstatic if they moved Miller (even if they had to keep a bit of salary). Miller has been trending down the last few years and it's only going to get worse. The problem is, to what extent is his NTC? apparently it's a limited NTC but does anyone know precisely which teams are on that list? (other than Buffalo, I would imagine ) |

Back to Lack - it's strange that your gm is telling VAN fans to be prepared to not get as much of a return as you'd hoped. Even stranger in that it's not a good negotiations tool for teams trying to acquire him. |
