It ain't admirable but it does ensure we get a few top picks in the line up. If you look at teams that are successful they have top draft picks playing meaningful. The twins are an example. Went 2-3. How is this team going to find those types again if we don't poop the bed for a little while?

Do you consider tampa as historical tankers? Nobody talks about their 'model' but it seems to be working for them.

Top picks turn teams around much faster than meddling in the 12-15 range. Buffalo took a ton of flack for it, but if/when they hoist the Cup are people going to say its tainted? Not a chance. I don't remember hearing it when the Pens won it.

Thank you!

Not to mention the half decade thing is a bit long.

With the like of Kane, Eichel, Ennis, Reinhart, Girgensons, Ristolanin, Pysyk, Bogosian, and Zadorov they have a pretty solid young core.

This up coming season and potentially the 2016-2017 season should be the last 2 seasons for a while where the Sabres don't make the playoffs for a long time.

If only hockey development were so linear.

Yes, yes but you can understand his point. If your development system is strong then there is no reason why those players can't excel in buffalo.

Don't think you get it. We want you to do well, and we know our team sucks. Our turn to be a pos team for 5+ years.

There wouldn't be any point in trading Lack for the 51 St. I would move Markstrom for a mid third instead

No I get it, I am on board with you guys. Last year Benning signed an aging Miller to try to hang onto the winning. I think it delayed what is necessary for you guys to do especially with the Twins aging.

I will be one of the first people defending you guys when people start calling you tankers. It's better in the long term!

Having Miller /Lack for one more year isn't horrible . We could move Miller much easier next season with one year left and hold 2 mil in salary

Which is why there was a much needed change at the GM position. Look at the Girgorenko situation and how Darcy Reiger ruined the kid.

Murray comes in and settles everything down. Players like Risto and Pysyk spent more time in the AHL to develop properly. Reinhart was sent back to juniors.

He traded for young already NHL players. Traded for players with a few years into their development guys like Fasching for example.

That is how you develop properly. The Sabres spend the last 2 years letting their core players develop the right way. A guy like Eichel will have his bumps along the way but he is ready for the big time. Give him a year or two and he should be a true franchise center.

So like I said in year 3 they should be a playoff team on the rise kind of like Tampa was last year and this season.

What would be reasonable for Lack and #23 this year from the Flyers?

Possible Players:
Brayden Schenn
Scott Laughton
Luke Schenn
Matt Read
Del Zotto (RFA)
Mark Alt

Kusma says 31 & 51? No wonder he hasn't been dealt. Maybe it was BUFF that has the two seconds on the table for Talbot?

- VanHockeyGuy

I wonder if Bernier is even available.

1. Benning said his goalie is the 2nd-most valuable on the market

2. Talbot is available and the asking price is high.

Huh? We would get a quality goalie to be our #1 and if you don't and make the pick at 31 you wouldn't see that player for 3-4 years. No brainer to me, trade the pick for Lack. A good hockey trade.
- mhp

I would rather draft a goalie or two and sign a UFA goalie

Help me understand why so many want lack gone? Is it because lack can fetch the best return? And that return is a 2nd round pick?
