All Vancouver has talked about for the past 7 years I feel like is goalie trade talk.... Luongo, Schneider, Markstrom, Lack, and Miller. - JVince11
Get with the program. It's only been the last 4 years! Before that we loved Luongo. Then he took us to within one game of the Stanley Cup and we turned on him... |

Don't know if anyone wants to bite on this hook:
If lack goes and miller is traded/walks in two to three years what are we left with? Markstrom and Demko? What will Markstrom be earning in two to three years?
Are we right back to a lack/markstrom kind of situation? - bloatedmosquito
Isn't this year a great example of how easy it is to acquire a goalie?
Also likely that a couple other goalies hit the market in the next couple years as Anaheim won't keep both Andersen and Gibson, Tampa with Bishop and Vasilevskiy, Detroit with Howard and Mrazek, etc. The market's going to be flush with "starting" goalies. |

We keep hearing about rich GT markets. I doubt JB fails to find a hole plugger in most any situation that will transpire. There just may be another GT prospect in the system in just a couple of days as well continuing our recent tradition of always being strong in that department. - boonerbuck
I agree the canucks seem to find gems in the goalie department but it's keeping them after they develop them that has me wondering wtf is going on.
We as a fan base never seem satisfied with our team's goaltender situation. We are so restless and I don't get it. Like to see some stability in that area for a change. |

Lu had a good run and Cloutier before him put up some good regular season numbers but injuries and beach balls weren't kind to him.
Just hoping for a reasonable return on whoever we trade. Goalies go hot and cold. Don't be too concerned either way, lots of stop gaps out there and projected to be out there in a few years. |

With Lack gone what's there really to talk about? I'd like the team step back as they're not contenders, get younger and faster. I expect some growing pains.
At the same time I'd like them to develop Markstrom under Miller, let him gain confidence at the NHL level, he's tremendously talented and he's only 25. - LeftCoaster
Really?
I would like to see the team step back to but at a faster pace and I think miller slows that process. It's quite possible that miller sustains another injury and markstrom has to fill in just like lack did. Maybe Markstrom might be given a chance to play a bit more than a usual backup. Who knows. He will probably have similar success as lack.
I just see miller as a non-factor. Probably have the same end of season result if millers in the line up or out.
Just don't see miller as a good stop-gap on the way to a rebuild. He makes me sad. |

Hmm… Lack, Vrbata, Kassian for 21st, 31st and Grigorenko - Jim_Robson
Why not make it Miller , then they can get back two players they traded away |

Win a Cup, then the fanbase won't give a f*ck who's in goal or who's name is on the back. 2011 is still too raw especially because of 1994 and how close we came in Game 7 to tying it (still think if Lafeyette scored on that shot that hit the post, we would have won in OT).
We ran Luongo out of town because he was so visibly horrible in the 3 Boston games which in turn took whatever momentum/life we might have had. We'll run every goalie out of town until one of them brings us back the Cup and then he'll be a god in Vancouver forever. |

Totally agree. That's why I can't get my head around the miller signing. Again, it seems like weird timing on that signing. But he's our goalie so I should just get used to it.
I hope the fuker fails miserably and we get a high pick anyway. |

Agreed as well. Lack is good but IMO no goalie is worth pick #31 with the current state of the Sabres rebuild - SayBeers
Huh? We would get a quality goalie to be our #1 and if you don't and make the pick at 31 you wouldn't see that player for 3-4 years. No brainer to me, trade the pick for Lack. A good hockey trade. |

I'm not saying that Lack doesn't deserve it but I don't think the price is as high as one might hope it is.
talbot technically had a better record and numbers even though I like him a lot less than Lack. Talbot played in a very good defensive system in NYR whereas Lack in VAN is in a system where goalies are hung out to dry very often and they still had similar numbers. Lack faced 150 more shots in just 3 games of difference between Neuvirth and Lack. The thing that scares me about Lack was his playoff performance. 1-3 with a 3.03 GAA and .886 S%.
I honestly think that 31 for Lack straight up is an overpayment. I'd hope that a 4th or something would come back with Lack in that deal. - JVince11
First of all Buffalo should not be worried about playoff performances for the next half decade or so.
Secondly Canucks Defense actually the whole team stunk in front of him |

It ain't admirable but it does ensure we get a few top picks in the line up. If you look at teams that are successful they have top draft picks playing meaningful minutes. The twins are an example. Went 2-3. How is this team going to find those types again if we don't poop the bed for a little while?
Do you consider tampa as historical tankers? Nobody talks about their 'model' but it seems to be working for them. |

Thank you!
Not to mention the half decade thing is a bit long.
With the like of Kane, Eichel, Ennis, Reinhart, Girgensons, Ristolanin, Pysyk, Bogosian, and Zadorov they have a pretty solid young core.
This up coming season and potentially the 2016-2017 season should be the last 2 seasons for a while where the Sabres don't make the playoffs for a long time. |
