With new contract talks in ballpark of 60M for max contract to resign Ryan O'Reilly, #Avs feel like they have no choice but to trade him.

This guy has been itching out of COL for years. Why Avs management keep insisting on getting him to sign a discount of any kind to stay is baffling.

This reminded me of Dave Nonis, Mike Gillis, Nucker & Zogg when I saw it this morning

Hypothetically, if Benning somehow managed to trade up and get the #3, who would you guys select?
- AlexF

I'd take Provorov... I'm going to be pretty pissed if Toronto winds up with him.

If it's Brandon Carlo then I agree.

I'm going full #FireBenning if he takes Carlo at 23, but I believe he's better than that.

That's not necessarily the case. He might just want out of COL. If he keeps bouncing around the league like Jagr then I would agree. With a draft system where teams hold your rights for what can feel like an eternity, I don't blame anyone for their reasons on wanting out from the team that drafted them.

I read Benning views Carlo as a future shutdown defenseman and nothing more. He won't be picking him. I'd be entirely shocked and extremely baffled if the Canucks pick this kid at 23.

I wouldn't go full Nucker but it'd be close

Bieksa was a legit top 4 guy in his prime, unless you mean current day Bieksa, then I agree except Carlo is bigger.

ROR, his agent, Sakic and Roy always insist that the holdup in negotiations is always the dollar amount and nothing else. Plus I don't see Roy as the type of guy who would keep a guy around that doesn't want to be there. It would be pretty ironic if he did though.

Hopefully it ends a day or two after Lack has been traded.
The whining has been rather epic since the end of the season.

- Marwood

I wouldn't be surprised if Benning is trying to wrangle in a prospect he likes, rather than a pick, for Lack. I think he even alluded to it a few days ago...

You read a lot of articles, I, sure you know that picking shutdown d-men who don't score enough points is not a methodical approach to the first round. History tells us that. There's always exceptions but if this regime's goal is to keep hoping that they'll find the exceptions then it's going to be ugly.

I believe Benning is smarter than that.

There are several better options out there. I wouldn't be surprised if he dropped to the 2nd. Still wouldn't take him.

I could live with him picked in round 2 but to me he's more of a mid-2nd round pick, mot early. I prefer Chabot over him if they really want a shutdown dman but neither are worth a first IMO.

That works as well, if picks are as hard to come by as everyone is lying about, you need to think outside the box.

This thing appears stuck on that trade that happened the other day, where are the new trades?

He seems to really want a 2nd round pick so I think he's going to get one by tomorrow.

I'm an engineer, 50% of my job is to read thru the most boring, but important, detailed information about project design....I should have been a lawyer, it requires a ton of reading, it pays more and I could've worked for myself.

This has definitely been a Benning tactic to date. If you're looking to execute a re-build on the fly then getting prospects that have had some extra years to mature and may be NHL-ready certainly expedites the process.

Picks, unless they are top 10ers, can take a long time to mature.

I woke up expecting there would be trades already made today. I feel like a kid waking up christmas morning to nothing.

Most generic statement ever for a late 1st round pick.
