Why does this team need Lack when he will be over the hill by the time this team is back in the big picture? He was here... and was ok... oh well. I'd take that 31 for him. This is a good draft and Lack was a free agent who cost us nothing and is blossoming at the wrong time in fact. If he were younger... then it would make more sense to keep him. We have time to develop Markstrom and Demko... the timing is much more fitting for those two players to stay in the system.
Lack achieves nothing that I can see in our rebuild by keeping him. People are married to this idea that he is a prospect. By the time Horvatt is 25 and McCann and Vertanin are 24, Lack will be 32 already and getting paid a much bigger contract than now. - boonerbuck

If you're using that timeline in terms of when the team's success will come (when Horvat is 25 and McCann and Virtanen are in their mid-twenties) then that is extremely depressing! and we might as well blow it all up. I could take 2-3 years of sucking badly as opposed to 7-8 |

Maybe we can get Lack's mom to write a letter to FA?
The petition is sad, but it is good for the club when the fan base shows a little passion, even if it may be miss placed. - hillbillydeluxe
That's actually a really good point. Fck, I hate being cynical. |

Not much change = not much different = similar results.
Causality 101. - AlexF
There were big changes last season and you could see the shift. We havent even hit the draft yet let alone July 1st and training camp...

Quite honestly it's gonna take a few development years and subsequent high draft picks before the team is a contender.
I think that happens when the twins retire. I wish they'd accept a trade to Florida or NYI. |

Come on, be cynical for gawd sakes lol. 800 people participating on a petition is not exactly earth-shattering passion (but in keeping with today's theme - better than nothing I guess ) |

I dont think it should take that long. Hawks had two top three picks and they were off to the races. Same with Los Angeles & Boston. |

I'm being honest with myself and to be truthful... those ages are early. They won't even be in their actual prime for a couple more seasons and they are the early to middle part of our rebuild. 7-8 to be a cup contender is realistic measured from where we stand today(going to need ufa help). JB has made a couple of moves to speed things up and Gillis' final draft year actually produced early results for once. But it's a ton of work ahead. Suck it up princess!!

The past three years have produced five first round picks, they're laying down a good foundation. No franchise players, yet, but the foundation is being laid. |

Lack has not played more than 40 games a season in the NHL yet. In Manitoba he had one season where he played over 50 games thats it. Though his numbers have been consistent over those years they are still relatively close at the NHL level. I think people are getting a little carried away with how good Lack is. Millers numbers have also been consistent and better than Lacks over his career with more games played. - thundachunk
It's not that I'm saying that Lack is an elite goalie, or that Miller is garbage, but even on his next contract Lack isn't going to make six million. I would love that extra cap flexibility, particularly if there is no noticible difference net. |

 are you flirting with me?
I would say your 7-8 year estimation is pretty much how long it would take starting basically from scratch. I think we are a lot better than 'scratch' at this point, however, so hopefully any sort of rebuild will be cut in half or at least therabouts - let's say 5 years maximum if given quality drafting and astute UFA/RFA management |

I still think Detroit is the one place they'd want to play. It seems like the Redwings are like hockey's version of the Yankees to the Swedes. But who knows if Detroit will or even can(cap space)ever trade for them. |

I keep forgetting that he's in that $6 million salary level, which just makes me more ticked off (yes, I know, it's not like I need any more motivation, as you all have come to know by now lol). |

Ok, that's simply unrealistic. You can't expect someone to go from what is basically paradise to a hole in the ground all in one swoop lol. It would have to be a gradual process.....(but I'm not naming any other cities for fear of even more hate mail ....although if anyone has any other suggestions I'd love to hear them
P.S and yes, I know there are actually nice areas in Detroit |

I think it won't take that long to be a good team but Stanly cup good? We have to wait for the new core to hit their prime because there will be no one in the system to carry them. I'm not sure what kind of elite free agents are in the plans to make us a contender while these guys are still in their early 20's. A short deal once in a while but that willl only keep us somewhat competitive.
