Expect the same result next season, or worse. Just being realistic.

My biggest female dog about Miller is Benning gave him three years, maybe he thought the team could compete for two or three more years? Signing him was a nobrainer IMO because Lack was very much unproven when Miller signed.

I'd prefer to move Miller, but it ain't happening so I try to be realistic about their current situation

I can't speak for the contradictory speech in what is wanted other than I think people are simply bored these days and are happy to entertain hypotheticals of every kind.

Re Lack I will say that, even if we did get a 2nd for him as many are pining for here, the odds are firmly against that player ever contributing to this team in any significant way. It's just the nature of how few draft picks ever pan out, especially after the 1st round.

- AlexF

That's exactly it in a nutshell. Hence, I confess I don't understand why most people on here seem to be fairly excited about the possibility of getting that 31st pick. We have a fairly proven asset that is going to be traded for that always tantalizing and sexy 'potential' dynamic (as you noted, the odds of getting something that translates to an asset down the road are not very good. We've had Lack in our system for a while now and just as he's showing signs of becoming a quality netminder, we are looking to move him, which is completely counter-intuitive in terms of what the team's general philosophy is. Frankly, I think we never see anything tangible in terms of that 31'st pick and it's just another in the line of wasted assets being moved for a nebulous return.

Having too many goaltenders of the same ilk is no different than any other position, when you have more than you need you move a player to restock the cupboards. Plain and simple.

2nd rounders have generally a 30% chance of 100 or more NHL games, but at least there's a chance and that's better than getting nothing.

It's amazing how many people seem to forget that this is the driving moniker guiding Benning's decisions.

the canucks.

and they want him until he's 38. or maybe trade him for a 2nd round pick before that. while lack has three more years to develop as a legitimate starter.

- bloatedmosquito

He'll only be 36 when his contract expires. Well within a goalie's window.

I don't think he is better. He has youth upside going for him. He has a great work ethic. Super likeable guy. Really is this whole petition thing gonna work.
- thundachunk

The petition is ridiculous. Embarrassing. Only in Vancouver. I know you're a Miller guy, but he and Lack are travelling in different directions. One's declining, the other improving. Last season they met in the middle.

Not exactly an enthusiastic prognostication lol. When you put it like that, it makes the perception that much worse. If we're now in the 'better than nothing' philosophy then you might as well just mail it in for the next few years and put us in a position to actually draft in that upper tier (I'm kidding, I don't want to @#$@ see that but it's a disturbing trend to see that we've already had several deals made which translated into essentially nothing (the jury's still out on Bonino and Vey but realistically it's not looking too good)

There was a ton of change last year, I expect more this year and in future years until it's a whole new group. Rome wasn't built in a day. As you know, cap and NTC's make huge turnover to core players difficult.

Maybe we can get Lack's mom to write a letter to FA?

The petition is sad, but it is good for the club when the fan base shows a little passion, even if it may be miss placed.

The concept is you keep Lack and let Markstrom walk, that's poor management and in part why we never have a decent prospect pool.

The team is old and not going to be good, writings on the wall, what the hell does it matter if Lack stays? We need as many picks as we can get to find that player that can be a good NHL'er.

Letting Markstrom walk is asinine!

Why does this team need Lack when he will be over the hill by the time this team is back in the big picture? He was here... and was ok... oh well. I'd take that 31 for him. This is a good draft and Lack was a free agent who cost us nothing and is blossoming at the wrong time in fact. If he were younger... then it would make more sense to keep him. We have time to develop Markstrom and Demko... the timing is much more fitting for those two players to stay in the system.

Lack achieves nothing that I can see in our rebuild by keeping him. People are married to this idea that he is a prospect. By the time Horvatt is 25 and McCann and Vertanen are 24, Lack will be 32 already and getting paid a much bigger contract than now.

Lack has not played more than 40 games a season in the NHL yet. In Manitoba he had one season where he played over 50 games thats it. Though his numbers have been consistent over those years they are still relatively close at the NHL level. I think people are getting a little carried away with how good Lack is. Millers numbers have also been consistent and better than Lacks over his career with more games played.
