Columbus wants to OS Dougie Hamilton
- VANTEL

How would that work? that is, it's rumoured that Edmonton is also possibly looking into that scenario, so who would ultimately be the recipient in a case where there is more than one offer sheet being thrown at the same player? would it simply be based on the monetary figure involved? or is it a time-line thing (i.e. whoever submits the offer sheet first), or is it like the draft, where your ultimate position which you finished in, determines officially whose offer sheet is in play?

Was going to ask if you think there will be a market adjustment or if someone will over pay? Then I gave my head a shake and can see that work stoppage down the road.

Guess they don't want to lose any seating as it stands now, but they should ensure new buildings are designed for a larger ice surface if it goes that way. I don't think they need Olympic size, they should be able to come up with something.
- hillbillydeluxe

With the new TV contracts and the possibility of expansion and team relocations I don't think they would lose that much money. And maybe, just maybe, the on ice product would be a lot more entertaining so revenues would go up anyway (offsetting the loss of seat revenue).

Just a thought

Apparently NYR turned down an offer of 2 2nds for Talbot.....not sure if it is true and I know the rangers don't have to move him but that would more than fair for a goalie who has only played 57 games in this league and less than half of those as a starter.

I can't wait until Edm overpays for him and they get another Fasth/Scrivins/Dubynk goalie.

- belcherbd

If that's truly the price great! It also would explain why there hasn't been any deals. JB has his plate full this draft, no handcuffs with POS veterans....so far.

If there is another work stoppage in the foreseeable future, the NHL as we know it, will cease to exist.

The price for Van included Horvat and the 23 at the very least.....can't see #3 coming our way.

Would you do Virtanen and the 23 for #3 and # 32 ?

I understand that, my question, however, was with respect to a scenario where multiple offer-sheets are submitted for the same player. What determines who ultimately gets the player? (if in fact the originating team won't match the offer(s)). As touched on, is it a time-line issue or is it purely based on the monetary amount? or a combination thereof?

As a GM in a cap world where it's already difficult enough to make a hockey trade, why would you break the unwritten rule and alienate yourself/and team from your counterparts?

If the league didn't bounce back so quickly last time, I would agree with you.

I think the player would only sign one offer sheet. Just because a team submits the best offer sheet it doesn't mean the player has to choose that offer sheet (might not like the destination).

Talbot wont be traded until AV embarrasses Lundqvist and he demands to be traded.

well, it was negotiated into the terms of the CBA so it's obviously a tool designed to be used (even though it is frowned upon in terms of being an unwritten rule that relies on conforming within the 'spirit of the game' dynamic). I wish there were more OS thrown out there, it would certainly make things a lot more interesting and would also underscore even further the importance of cap management.

Maybe I'm biased but the #26 pick for Vrbata on a contending team that lacks exactly what he brings would be a fair offer.
- AlexF

My thoughts too. They would have a good chance to resign him too. They are probably a top 8 team in the league they should be going all in now.

It would be doing the Canucks a great service if they ended up being linemates at the WJC.
