Thornton's cap hit is only 750k more, same term... - hillbillydeluxe
How does he fit in with our long term plans? Why the hell would he accept a trade to the fishbowl that is Vancouver? And what would it cost (on top of $$$) to acquire him?
Eric Staal's apparently available too. I don't think Vancouver really needs another expensive #1 center in his 30s. |

JB made a mistake in signing miller and it's making things more complicated than it has to be. Rookie GM not understanding the market or the true needs of his new team.
Rather JB spend the miller money on a #1 centre. - bloatedmosquito
I'm trying to figure out what direction you want this team to go in?
Do you want to rebuild or be a contender? You talk about rebuilding but want to sign a number 1 C which would mean we have the Sedin's getting 14 mil on the 2nd line... which makes the Miller money look like pocket change????
Seriously. The Miller signing isn't complicating things as much as you claim. We have tradable assets because of it. Why is losing Lack such a dire situation?
I'm sure it will not be the set back you keep going on about. |

Much like NYR and Talbot, VAN has multiple offers on Lack. Hearing BUFF among most interested. #TSN - LeftCoaster

Craig Buttons Mock Draft Rnd 1 doesn't include JANSEN HARKINS. CSS has him listed at #15 for NA skaters. Maybe he never heard of him because he's not from TO? - VanHockeyGuy
I'd rank him between 20-25 in this draft. |

What the perceived difference is NY is not desperate to move Talbot, VAN is with Lack. Herein lies the problem. - VanHockeyGuy
That's what NY sees. Everyone else just sees supply and demand. If there's enough demand then it is irrelevant that the Canucks need to move a goalie. If there's too much supply then they don't have to overpay for either and Talbot stays in NY. |

Kevin Bieksa respects the Canucks and ownership above and beyond what Kesler did. I wouldn't worry about him being a circus like #17. - nelson911
Not so worried about Bieksa being a circus as much as media cranking up that circus.
When it happens, as soon as Bieksa goes public that he was asked to waive, the rumour and speculation crank up on what he says or doesn't say.
If he was recently asked and is still here, the trade watch starts and Bieksa is under the microscope even more and every player on the block from every other team is linked to Vancouver and Bieksa in a trade.
As soon as it became a bit more publicly known Kesler requested a trade, everyone wants the back story from Kesler and management and team mates. Every nuance is speculated upon... people are dying for bs rumours and dirt. |

There's never been any confirmation as to what sort of requests were made prior to the Olympics. There has been nothing but speculation that he wanted out. Can you say for sure that Gillis was informed that he wanted out, or was it merely that if a trade were possible he would be open to it? - KB3Point0
Strange you are reminding me that nothing has been confirmed since the whole point of my post was to remind you of that. Thats why I mentioned Kesler's other side of the media story that was out.

Personally would keep Lack if it's just a late 2nd, Markstrom can at least fetch a 4th. 4th round picks have a low chance of even making the NHL.
If it's an early 2nd(top 40 pick, 40-45 maybe), then I'd move Lack.

True.. the media will eat it up... especially with a fan fav like him. Will be a big story. I like it ...creates intrigue... Canucks fans need it this offseason, don't think there will be too much happening with them. |

My top 30 for the draft.......Didn't take me hours to put this together since following a few draft/junior experts on twitter all year who watch these guys regularly made this easier for me than in year's past when I relied more on random scouting reports and stats. Probably the first time I've ever felt confident in putting together a top 30 list for fun since I actually feel like I have a good read on most of the top prospects.
1. Conor McDavid
2. Jack Eichel
3. Mitch Marner
4. Noah Hanifin
5. Kyle Connor
6. Dylan Strome
7. Matt Barzal
8. Pavel Zacha
9. Mikko Rantanen
10. Ivan Provorov
11. Zack Werenski
12. Lawson Crouse
13. Timo Meier
14. Nick Merkley
15. Joel Eriksson-Ek
16. Denis Gurianov
17. Evgeni Svechnikov
18. Brock Boeser
19. Travis Konecny
20. Jansen Harkins
21. Colin White
22. Jack Roslovic
23. Jakub Zboril
24. Jeremy Roy
25. Ilya Samsonov
26. Jake DeBrusk
27. Noah Juulsen
28. Oliver Kylington
29. Paul Bittner
30. Nicolas Meloche |

I'm not sure you see the same situation as I do.
Miller hasnt complicated the goalie situation. He has given us the ability to turn one of the 3 into a pick in this draft. Probably able to make another goalie trade next season as well.
Unless we are strictly talking hind sight, then there was a need for a starter for a few reasosns. Does the GM want to come in and flop right away because he listened to the fired management and went with the very unproven duo of Lack and Markstrom? No. Does he want to have his first strike against him in the eyes of his boss for not making the playoffs over the simple move of signing a #1? No.
It's been clear this team is not tanking for a full rebuild. Your point about that is moot. - boonerbuck
We rarely see it the same way booner
One of my biggest canuck complaints I've had over the years is non-hockey pressures influencing hockey decisions. Does the GM want to come in and flop right away? Does he want to have his first strike against him in the eyes of his boss for not making the playoffs?
What does that have to do with smart hockey management or positioning your team for long term success? Poor reasoning to go out and get miller and give him a poor contract that handcuffs the team. Secondly, how could JB possibly flop when he took over from the abomination that was the gillis/torts era? He had a free pass and failed to capitalize on it.
In this particular case I'm not talking tanking I'm talking development. Lots of examples last season of surprise goalies. I'll use dubnyk as an example. Are we so sure the combination of lack/markstrom last season would be a purposeful tank? I don't know. So I don't think it's a moot point.
But I agree with you, the signing of miller was an attempt by JB to protect his position and image with the team owner more than a decision to progress an inevitable rebuild. |

After looking at your mock draft i'm not surprised. You may want to look at a few more scouting reports. Listen to what teams are saying what they are looking at. Bob mackenzie for the past years has been outstanding at predicting where players will go. NHl.com is saying what each team could use in their system. |
