Trade him for a late 2nd or 3rd?
- VanHockeyGuy

Would you prefer to keep Lack or Markstrom and a late 2nd in a very deep draft?

Simple, Markstrom would probably walk if he is not traded or lack is not traded by friday. he would go to europe. now you get nothing. BIG failure there
- Retinalz

No, he will be in the NHL next year, not Europe.

Good size and speed for a big guy. Solid shot. Just lacks consistency
- Mungo

Hansen is immensely consistent. He is always fast and consistently has hands of stone.

If we trade Edler for Lucic, Miller will be running for the door. will take a trade anywhere.

Skit of JB and Miller conversation
JB: Miller I am sorry but you no longer fit in the plans for this team. I would like to see a list of 10 teams that you would accept a trade to.
Miller: No I am not leaving. I signed a 3 year contract and I intend to see it through.
JB: Miller I really need to trade you because I feel the other 2 goalies will do the same as you at a much lower cost.
Miller: Too bad.
JB: You leave me no choice.
Miller: What are you going to do?
JB: I will split the top d paring and trade 1 of them to Buffalo for Lucic.
Miller: (frank) I hate Lucic. I don't want to be in the same conference as him let alone the same team.
JB: Oh yeah. Well too bad.
Miller: Is there another move you are considering?
JB: Sure there is.
Miller: Well can you tell me?
JB: Of course. I am promoting Bieska and Sbisa to the top paring D.
Miller: How soon do you want that list?
JB: Now would be great and make that list 5 teams that you would not accept a trade to.
Miller: Let me call my wife...

Deadline is not Friday, that's what people are missing. If JB is getting lowballed because every GM thinks he has to make a deal by Friday, and takes less than market value, he is a fool.

Because we aren't winning the Stanley Cup in the next couple years anyways and Miller is here for AT LEAST one more season, likely two, whether we like it or not.

If Miller is here for the next 2 seasons (not a guarantee he'll be here for the last year of his contract, I could see a situation where he is moved (Anaheim isn't re-signing Andersen and Gibson in a year...) how do we really pay $11M for goalies that season? And just so that we can hang onto Lack?

I'd much rather swap him for a promising prospect or a pick. Frankly, I'd rather package him up with someone else...

- KB3Point0

JB made a mistake in signing miller and it's making things more complicated than it has to be. Rookie GM not understanding the market or the true needs of his new team.

Rather JB spend the miller money on a #1 centre.

I think the signing of Miller has really complicated our goalie situation. There was no need for miller. It's not the right time for that kind of player or that kind of personality on this team.

If you are rebuilding then why not stick with Lack/Markstrom and maybe pick up a cheap (but adequate) goalie during this time of year? The market on goalies has been soft for years (as we are seeing now). Lots of quality out there. Demand is low.

JB made a mistake in signing miller.

- bloatedmosquito

I'm not sure you see the same situation as I do.

Miller hasnt complicated the goalie situation. He has given us the ability to turn one of the 3 into a pick in this draft. Probably able to make another goalie trade next season as well.

Unless we are strictly talking hind sight, then there was a need for a starter for a few reasosns. Does the GM want to come in and flop right away because he listened to the fired management and went with the very unproven duo of Lack and Markstrom? No. Does he want to have his first strike against him in the eyes of his boss for not making the playoffs over the simple move of signing a #1? No.

It's been clear this team is not tanking for a full rebuild. Your point about that is moot.

He dragged out the Luongo situation until the league changed the rules and f*cked the Canucks.

If the reports are true and Kesler wanted out around the time of the Olympics, then Gillis did not drag that out. He had a tiny window in which to trade him and knew they could get more later, which they did.

- KB3Point0

Reports were ture? You dont remember the reports I think otherwise you'd remember that Kesler requested out the season before he claimed. It was during the Olympics that it leaked was all. He denied it all of course until the trade went down.... but obviously he leaked the request to get it moving.

Eklund on Lucic

"Edmonton (e4) and Calgary (e3)"

lmao, that would be great! We could watch him beat the crap out of VAN several times a year then!

Yes he did all leak it all... it wasn't coming from nowhere... POS then denies it all in true Ryan Kesler transparent fashion.

Agreed. If Talbot does net two 2nds (which I doubt) then yes, Lack should be worth at least one high 2nd.

To be honest, I keep hoping Bieksa and JB have had conversations. As soon as it leaks that they have spoken, it is full on questions about it and even more speculation. And the clock is running, more pressure to get something done, and the circus that surrounds it.

I know it's just a skit but Miller cannot refuse to be traded. It's not a full NTC... he has to hand over a list of teams he'd waive too... if he refused to do that, the Canucks can then void his NTC and trade him anywhere.

People really are out of touch with whats going on with our contracts.... or they just enjoy exaggerating how bad everything is.

If we get a 2nd round pick for one of our extra goalies... people are going to cry about failure? Lack is not a huge loss like people are bawling over. His contract is almost over and he is decent at best. We need picks not a resigned middling GT.

Kevin Bieksa respects the Canucks and ownership above and beyond what Kesler did. I wouldn't worry about him being a circus like #17.

What the perceived difference is NY is not desperate to move Talbot, VAN is with Lack. Herein lies the problem.

There's never been any confirmation as to what sort of requests were made prior to the Olympics. There has been nothing but speculation that he wanted out. Can you say for sure that Gillis was informed that he wanted out, or was it merely that if a trade were possible he would be open to it?

Personally would keep Lack if it's just a late 2nd, Markstrom can at least fetch a 4th. 4th round picks have a low chance of even making the NHL.

If it's an early 2nd(top 40 pick, 40-45 maybe), then I'd move Lack.
