Other players can get you picks, enter Bieksa etc.
- VanHockeyGuy

He loses a lot of value after the draft. If eh isn't traded by then, trading him will be a huge failure in JB's part.

Then in 4-5 years we will have another goalie controversy in Lack and Demko.
- Linden_4_Capt

Speaking of trolling, I saw my favorite troll for the day on TSN.

Kessel to Arizona for the third overall pick, Domi, and Ekman-Larsson. Yotes would be getting a top 3 sniper in the league and and the Leafs would be getting some young players in return.

How has he shown to be "slower than Mike Gillis at decisions?" He seems to have switched the entire direction of the franchise, which refused to do so for years, very quickly. Cleaned out almost everyone. Acquired a bunch of picks. And is looking at shipping out some others in the next few days.
- KB3Point0

Thats right. Gillis dragged out the Luongo scandal till we lost both goalies,,, Gillis dragged out the Kesler scandal, by the time Gillis changed strategy a couple of times.... the leagues direction was ready to flip again always leaving us one step behind.

There are too many goalies on the market. If Talbot can get two 2nds, why would you sell short on Lack?

Much like NYR and Talbot, VAN has multiple offers on Lack. Hearing BUFF among most interested. #TSN

Wish they would take Miller for their 2nd.

Henrik and daniel were 9th and 13th in scoring this year. Still without help. Let's get lucic. Edler buddy, you're gone.
- manvanfan

If we trade Edler for Lucic, Miller will be running for the door. will take a trade anywhere.

Benning on trading the 2nd and 3rd rounder this year.

“In a perfect world, I would have liked to have kept the picks and make the picks,” Benning said before travelling to Las Vegas for NHL meetings and Wednesday night’s awards show. “The reality is, players that you pick outside of the top eight or 10 (in the first round) take time to develop. Usually it’s another year or two in junior, then a year or two in the American (Hockey) League and then they make your team. But they’re still not impact players for a couple of years. So that’s like a four- to six-year process.

“I’m trying to walk the fine line of doing everything I can do to make the team as good as it can be, but with an eye to the future, too. We needed to fill in our prospect pool.”

He is also trying to collect additional draft picks for this weekend.

I'm totally fine with JB trading our 2nd for Baertchi. I think we'd be happy if we got a player like him with our own 2nd.

Fair enough.

I think he handled himself pretty good considering the defence core we have and the systems in place. I don't know why so many people are eager to trade lack.

I have no confidence in Markstrom. Nor should anyone else. Has proved nothing yet.

- bloatedmosquito

Because we aren't winning the Stanley Cup in the next couple years anyways and Miller is here for AT LEAST one more season, likely two, whether we like it or not.

If Miller is here for the next 2 seasons (not a guarantee he'll be here for the last year of his contract, I could see a situation where he is moved (Anaheim isn't re-signing Andersen and Gibson in a year...) how do we really pay $11M for goalies that season? And just so that we can hang onto Lack?

I'd much rather swap him for a promising prospect or a pick. Frankly, I'd rather package him up with someone else...

Lack does not have to be traded this weekend.
- VanHockeyGuy

As long as we're comfortable letting Markstrom walk and paying Lack $4M in a year while also paying Miller $6M that year and the +/- $1M we'll still be paying Luongo...

I don't see why we'd bother.

I think the signing of Miller has really complicated our goalie situation. There was no need for miller. It's not the right time for that kind of player or that kind of personality on this team.

If you are rebuilding then why not stick with Lack/Markstrom and maybe pick up a cheap (but adequate) goalie during this time of year? The market on goalies has been soft for years (as we are seeing now). Lots of quality out there. Demand is low.

JB made a mistake in signing miller.

Canucks made their bed with Ryan Miller as starter... they have to trade Lack with his UFA status upcoming....hope its an early second round pick!

PS... I hate they went this way... Lack over Miller was my personal choice

He dragged out the Luongo situation until the league changed the rules and f*cked the Canucks.

If the reports are true and Kesler wanted out around the time of the Olympics, then Gillis did not drag that out. He had a tiny window in which to trade him and knew they could get more later, which they did.

Totally agree. If the return on Lack is a no better than a 3rd (or a high 2nd) then why trade him? His value to this team is much higher as a player than trade bait. Miller's going to break down again and the backup will play significant amount of games.

Why not work with Lack and develop his talents? The canucks have done a great job developing some players. If the canucks can turn Burrows into a contributor then they should be able to turn lack into a superstar.

- bloatedmosquito

Lack will be on his way out next season anyways and will give a better return now. I don't think we need to keep pushing to improve in the regular season like you are worried about. Why not develop Markstrom and the pick/prospect coming back as well.

Simple, Markstrom would probably walk if he is not traded or lack is not traded by friday. he would go to europe. now you get nothing. BIG failure there
