Depends on what price but I'm not a big Sutter fan. Markstrom & Higgins for Sutter, sure.

But would have to move out some salary to fit him in.

1040 just said Bieksa's value is a 2nd or more likely a 3rd, can't say I disagree but think it might be more worthwhile to try and move him at the deadline if a 3rd is the return.

The thing I like about Sutter is he has trade value at TDL

Roster spot and cap space the big winner.

That is why I said if he doesn't agree to trade put him on waivers

Thats a good point... any team that can carry him can probably cash in with a first rounder and prospect at the deadline.

He's decent in the playoffs and will want 5 mil next year. I agree a fringe team might want to add depth. That is why I don't care if it is for Vrbata who cost us only salary to aquire

Our cap issues will force a move sooner.

If Benning is moving Vrbata, I think trying to get a more permanent piece makes sense.

Whether that is a 1st or a couple 2nd or prospects at least those project to help the canucks long term.

Getting Sutter for Vrbata and then expecting Sutter to garner more come the deadline seems like an unnecessary risk.

What if he is injured, or has a poopty season, or just isn't worth as much as Vrbata is now.

If we moved Vrbata or Burrows, and Bieksa, that would make plenty of cap room for the club.

Sorry to see Vrbata moved. How often have we been able to attract a top 6 fwd ufa that scored while here?

Sure but you can likely solve all the cap issues by moving Higgins and a goalie.

Whatever Benning does, I hope he doesn't just throw away assets for little or no value because is close to the cap.

They will both end up with twenty goals next year unless Vrbata plays on Malkins wing. Vrbata is definitely not returning next year.

If the younger bigger Sutter proves once again to score and play shut down moving out of the shadows of Crosby Malkin them we may have made a really good trade if not then trade him.

I find it easier to trade younger players

I posted yesterday but to have this type of talent and have our backs up against the cap is crazy . Mgmt needs to drop average players with the high saleries

I sorely wish I was watching 18 holes of playoff golf today as my work day has been beyond dead. Damn Dustin Johnson. Choke artist on the big stage.

Sounds familiar to someone we know all to well around here doesnt it

From TSN According to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, Kessel’s list includes Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Montreal, the New York Rangers, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

New Bruins’ GM Don Sweeney surely isn’t going down the Kessel road, even if he could afford it. The other seven clubs all have significant salary cap constraints - with Kessel being a pipedream to add for the Blackhawks, Kings, Canadiens, Wild and Rangers.

Of course, Kessel’s list could also change with a phone call. One team believed to be kicking the tires on Kessel are the Calgary Flames, whose president, Brian Burke, traded for Kessel in Toronto.

The NHL’s trade market could break open well before Toronto decides what to do with Kessel or Phaneuf. Edmonton, Buffalo and San Jose are hot for Rangers’ backup goaltender Cam Talbot. A Talbot trade could set off a domino effect on a teeming goalie market.

The Senators are shopping one of Robin Lehner or Craig Anderson and Dallas starter Kari Lehtonen is available. Calgary is willing to move Jonas Hiller. One of Eddie Lack or Jacob Markstrom is likely leaving Vancouver. Plus, the Ducks (John Gibson) and the Kings (Martin Jones) are toying with the idea of moving their backups.
