Those prospects will save a lot more in the long run than the excess Frolik is paid.

Saving on the cap is fine and all but it doesn't matter when FA sucks and the players you want dont want to play there.

The players available in trade aren't flawless either. There's no perfect solution out of this. Forcing a trade with a lot of future assets going back is going to exacerbate the problems.

Which is why I am pretty negative about this team and the position they are in. I dont see a quick fix and JR's past shows he doesn't have what it takes to turn it around.

I think a Sharp/Kessel/Oshie trade is an ultimate attempt at a quick fix. I'd rather overpay in UFA and unload players for future assets and actually fix the problem.

I couldn't agree more. I can't believe Chicago was asking for that package. If Ruthy did that they should change the locks at the Consol.

the teams need to be smart and sort of stick together and not give in to that demand. chicago can obviously ask whatever they want, and ultimately, all it takes is one buyer to determine the worth as such. for the time being, they have nothing to lose by starting their demands so high.

its like a prisoner's mentality. the distrust of other GMs who would be willing to actually pay the price could make someone be pretty stupid and pay that ridiculous freight. heres to hoping its not JR.

I pray that this is fake:

@TheHockeyChat - BREAKING: Blackhawks & Penguins discussing a potential Patrick Sharp Trade:

Hawks are asking for 2016 First Round Pick+Bennett+Kapanen

- cap1681

Idk about rest of you, but i see something interesting in this rumor.

Hawks earlier reported they want a 1st, top 6 winger ready now and an A level prospect. Well obviously there is a first, Kap is the A level prospect. So apparently Chi sees BB as a top 6 winger. That is pretty interesting. If they see him as a top 6, how many other teams see him as a top 6 and could there be a better trade market for BB than we think.

The rumor could be entirely speculation. If it is true, it shows that Rutherford is not committed to getting any younger and will continue putting future assets towards declining veterans.

I don't agree with you. That is price Hawks asked for not what JR offered. For all we know JR offered sutter and kunitz.

Now If the deal goes through as is, then I totally agree with you.

One player I like to improve the bottom 6 is Joel Ward. Solid depth player and always makes some noise in the playoffs.

I was on the Blackhawks board for a bit yesterday and they said a trade with Toronto was very close. 2015 1st, 2016 2nd, and a young defenseman for Sharp and Shaw. If that is true then Sharp's asking price has dropped considerably as I would think Shaw is more than a mere throw-in.

Does Tor havd 2 1st? Bc they be insane to trade #4 overall for anyone, let alone Sharp and giving up even more.

Im afraid JR will be going all in knowing he is at the end of his career.

That said I'd prefer players to take an easier risk on...Rychel, Pulk, maybe Belesky.

So apparently Philly is gonna make a trade tom based off of prior years.

June 23, 2011: Richards and Carter traded
June 23, 2012: JVR traded
June 23, 2014: Hartnell traded
June 23, 2015: ???

Shaw is the guy I'd most like to pluck from Chicago. That's a young guy you can move all over the lineup.

The rumor was that the asking price was Kapanen, 2016 1st rounder, and Bennett. Why the hell would CHI take on salary? They are trading Sharp because they have to lose salary. They aren't going to take on salary.

I'd take a risk on almost any of the top young UFA forwards before trading important future assets. I think it is almost guaranteed to fail unless someone really overvalues Sutter.

I agree with you but he has "grit" so he will not be liked on this board.

That wast a real trade proposal, it was a hypothetical. Saying we have no idea what JR offered or is willing to offer for Sharp.

So everyone is in on Frolik at 5 but Tlusty at 3.5 would be a much better value. Career goals per game slightly higher. If we want value why not go for a guy like him?

There has been a weird infatuation with Tlusty for a while on this board. His best year is 23-15-38 in 48 games. In full seasons, his numbers are worse and no he didn't play for a bad Carolina team every year.

For a guy that has put up pedestrian numbers throughout his career, I can't think of one guy not on this roster that has been talked about more on this board than him.

What about Shawn Matthias from VAN? A good 3C option?
