So replace Sutter with whipping boy #2 on the Pens fan club?

I agree Sund will be a 4C this year.

Yes. Production is going to be about the same...why not?

Wait, Spaling is second? I thought Scuds was second? Or is he first, Sutter second and Spaling third? Which is it? I'm so confused on this one.

I would rather the Penguins pursue players in unrestricted free agency van over pay in trades.

My list is small CBJ:
CLB: Jenner/Atkinson/Rychel, but they will want Harrington/Demoulin in a return

Teams who may have interest, but I don't see a trade match (for Sutter): MTL, MIN, VAN

- mventres

IMO, the price for Atkinson or Jenner is more than Harrington or Dumo.

He played quite a few games with Staal and Staal at the end of the season and didn't produce. It's not like Staal and Staal are Adams and Goc. When a guy makes $7 million per, he should bust his ass regardless of how the team is doing. He didn't. He essentially stole money from Carolina.

You fail to realize the negatives on Semin and there are quite a few. Do some reading and you will get the full picture.

Spare me with the only issue is health. He has a much larger issue that the rest of the league knows about.

Let me ask you why Washington went year to year with Semin and didn't sign him to a long term contract. I will wait for your answer.

- Oneonta Penguin

I'll answer that question. Because of the issues you sited, despite his talent, Semin was not worth investing 7M a season in long-term. He's inconsistent, nobody is arguing that.

The question is, is he worth 3.5M. Prior to last year, for 8 straight seasons his WORST year was a 20 goal pace, the other 7 were 25. His WORST seasons were at a 55 point pace, usually 60 points or better. If you get him at a reduced salary or get them to take someone like Scuderi, then the points alone provide the value, and he is capable of driving possession and all that advanced stuff otherwise you know RW wouldn't want him.

So is it possible last year was an off year. He did play hurt all year, shooter with a wrist injury. And while you would like more professionalism from Semin, it probably wasn't smart for a rookie head coach to make a known moody player his public whipping boy either.

Not sure if that's the case. CBJ really needs young D...I could see Rychel for Harrington. The others, sure maybe they'd want another minor piece...

You still have not answered the question. What does it fetch?

A $7m dollar player at half price plus a 2nd round draft pick, would net you more than Sutter.

Aktinson and Jenner are top six forwards in Columbus, right? Why would they want a third Dpair guy that could easily be a seventh man for Pittsburgh this year? I think you are overvaluing Harrington and Dumo.

That's why I agreed that another minor piece would be needed. Jenner usually plays 3C though...

I still like Frolik the best out of any players available so far.

That's a package that gets a top 6 forward with no baggage. Semin has major baggage.

Who is the target player?? If he's older than 27 or 28 I don't think it's worth it for PIT...

I'd rather keep the 1st, pick up a second and roll the dice on Semin.

I think the problems are far deeper. They had a decent D, but they are losing 1/3 of it and replacing it with unproven rookies. Pens need 2 top 6 players and an entire 3rd line.....Good luck JR!
- sammy87

I'll agree with you there, the team has lots of places they need to improve. But that's exactly why I take the guy I think has underrated value, so the Pens can use their better bargaining chips to upgrade the rest of the roster. I still want a guy like Rychel for the other wing. Like most I'd love to add Soderberg. Comeau is a 3rd line answer for me.

Basically on the rest of the roster I want those gritty hard working types. But ones that do that and score 25 goals, maybe 30 with Malkin, just aren't available.

Other then this one spot, I think you and I are looking for similar players. I'm dead set on trying to aquire a RH sniper not only for Malkin, but to open up the other side of the ice for our way to predictable PP.

How come OV doesn't need a fellow Russian to play with?

Go back to the JV board with that one. That gets you certainly someone better than Alex Semin ... one that has a better work ethic too boot.

He plays with Ward and Backstrom. You always read Geno wants a Russian to play with. Seems childish.

But not a proven top 6 guy. You're looking at somebody who is likely just a bit better than Perron...again, I'd take my chances with keeping the 1st, adding a second and seeing what Semin can do.

And what if Semin does what Semin has been known to do and the reason why the Caps didn't want a 40g scorer with a ton of talent?

You're stuck with a guy for 2 more years and you wasted assets and right back where you started.

'other' is favourite 2/1 - has come in overnight.
I'll throw Semin in there with the Canes connection at 6/1 - gone out
Rychel 7/1 - leaving
Skinner 7/1 - getting some interest
All others over 15/1 - there is a dark horse in that lot that no one has mentioned but betting may be separated into a single name (e5) if JR continues to remain silent (doesn't mix with water & is slippery ).
