I pray that this is fake:

@TheHockeyChat - BREAKING: Blackhawks & Penguins discussing a potential Patrick Sharp Trade:

Hawks are asking for 2016 First Round Pick+Bennett+Kapanen

- cap1681

I'm listening to MM, he shares my views on the team and the current situation. If this is true, game over.....could be made public to see what the Pens are putting on the table for a top 6.

I second that. If PIT does that I'll be extremely pissed...

...or we could get Semin at half the price for 1/5 the value! Semin (@3.5) + 2nd/3rd for Sutter...

It will piss me off so much. We will cease to exist as a hockey team in 2-3 years if this happens.

Also, I would be very very disappointed with ownership for allowing it, if such a thing happened because it would be obviously done solely for increasing short-term team value for a sale...

I'll tell you, I doubt Kessel-Pittsburgh happens, but man would Kessel and Crosby be dirty together.

I almost want to see it happen just to watch our first line next year... even if it puts us in cap hell.

If TOR takes on 3mil/year, I'd give them a 2016 1st + Bennett + Harrington.

Crosby and phil would finish top 2 in scoring, no doubt.

Semin in a deal like that doesn't kill the Penguins future at all. Kessel or Sharp does. That's the difference.

Semin isn't as bad as he's made out to be...but my main point was the discrepancy is cost for the two and the fact that neither would make us far and away better. If I had to make one of the deals, I'd do Semin any day.

Yeah, if it happened then they'll all sell after the next Cup (if we make it)

If I was the owner and saw my GM offered that (doesn't look like it as CHI would have ran away with that offer before he could think about it) he would be canned instantly.

No kidding you'd want to pay phil 5 mill a year, but that's living in dreamland. Hes worth a lot more than that.

It doesn't kill the team's future, but adding Semin doesn't put this team past the 2nd round or ahead of anyone else in the conference.

Exactly. Pens can afford to miss on a Semin/Vrbata/Parenteau/etc. trade where they aren't sacrificing future assets. Hell, overpaying in UFA is a lot better option than completely destroying the future. Sharp is worse than Kunitz. Rutherford shouldn't even be talking to them.

Rumor is they want to get rid of him asap but would prefer not to buyout as the cost stays on the books for a long time. this way they get back a player (Sutter) who can help them immediately, and lose only a 2nd/3rd pick that is likely only a 10% chance to make the league anyway...they get Semin off the books and no headache of buyout/etc.

Basically, CAR either buys out Semin and pays him a total of more than 3.5x3, or trades him out along with a pick and let somebody else deal with it.

Adding Sharp won't either. And the acquisition costs are going to be much higher. The focus should be on sustainability- not burning everything to the ground for the next two seasons.

The buyout would be 2.33M for the next 6 years

when you say they get semin off their books, that would be if they aren't retaining any of his salary. by retaining 3.5 million and taking on (by A LOT of penguins fans opinions) the inflated contract that Sutter has, as well as giving up a pick. Seems to be a very lopsided deal.
