What if they did a trade for his rights.. Say spalingg for kadri - nh4442
Toronto would never do that. Why would they? |

I really don't want us trading for rights... thats just asking for trouble to occur. |

Never thought Sharp would be a fit for the Pens. Older roster needing to get younger. Lots of clutch older players with great experience closing out teams in the playoffs....
Artemi Panarin, Kyle Baun, and Tanner Kero would have been great young additions for the Pens... Oh, wait.....
Still time on Mike Reilly though. Keep hope alive.
Maybe that Saad offer sheet can bring him back to his hometown? Woops. - tredbrta
I've seen Kyle Baun play more than your management team. I'm not sure he would have been a better player to go after. There was a kid at PSU, the Pens should have gone after, better than Baun, and we passed.
Stop with the arrogance.

Don't mind if they are RFAs. At least you get the chance to match, or get the compensation if you don't. |

Wasn't 87 mic'd up saying Kadri was garbage to Phaneuf during game?
Never happen. |

Kadri has been on the out a for years..they r going to let him walk or pay him a poopty contract. Let's give the spaling. A player who when used efficiency can be like a switch blade.. All 4 lines apparently.. And still you don't think that type of player.can help them |

Kadri for Spaling is an insanely uneven trade. |

It's going based on percentage. The point is crossing the 50% threshold with the top 5 players makes it appear less likely to have a SC competitive team. |

87 is still the highest cap hit to win a cup in the cap era. 71 now makes more than him since that happened. I think you can break the teams down even more after the 5 players. No team has won a cup with so much devoted to just 2 players. Hawks will try. |

That makes sense. It all goes back to my original question of whether or not RW made a mistake with this quote. "The majority of Stanley Cup Champions have paid their top five players ~50 million."
That was my question and superhenderson said the quote is correct, I wanted to make sure I wasnt seeing something wrong.
To summarize. Saying percentage.....makes sense. Saying $50 million...doesn't. |

The nominal cap hits mean nothing though. Crosby's real cap hit in terms of percentage is probably the highest as well. |

i read the quote wrong. i knew he meant 50% because 50 million would make no sense. |

That's a problem with this market. If you don't want to pay big for a guy like Fransen but want just a decent 2nd pairing guy, there isn't much out there. I'd actually be open to an Ehrhoff return but that doesn't look like it's happening. Odulya is one of the few options and again you worry about decline. - Tojo.
I don't worry about the decline as I see that as being balanced by the incline of the younger guys. Basically, you want a solid D who can chew up minutes and not be a liability, can teach younger guys, etc...only needed for 2-3 years and 1-2 years of that can be in transition to a 3rd pairing from a 2nd pairing. It's a smart play, helps out now on multiple levels as well as in the future..if the older guys still hold value after 1-2 years they can be dealt for a mid/late rnd pick at the deadline... |
