I like Marincin, he has solid top 4 potential....but I won't over sell him. He's not overly big for a tall mutant and doesn't have a lot of upper body strength. He's a bit soft. But he does have skills and can skate and room to fill out still.
Best case scenario is a slower developer ( Halls draft year, 2010) and just needs the right partner/mentor. Worst case is he's a bottom pair defender on a good defence. - HonkyTonkMan
I look at him as equal to a second round pick for Lack
Hamhuis for the first
I think it is a very fair deal
I know Gillis liked Marincin .
He wanted him the first and second round pick for Schneider |

We're not allowed to say the S word
It has been mostly the surrounding cast that is the problem but yeah |

I know we have many attachments to players here but ask yourself if we are getting full value ? I think we can get cheaper for not a big decrease in value
Burrows 4.5 or Kassian at 1.75
Higgins at 2.5 or Sven at 1 mil
Bieksa at 4.5 or Corrado at 1 mil
Hamhuis at 4.5 or Dillon at say 2.5 ( he needs a new contract RFA, I am guessing his increase) |

I've been looking at it and 35-36 are the years players have their biggest decline, even gretzky wasn't immune to it. Extreme cases decline by almost 40% the great one declined by 25%. Lets just say the Sedins are on par with Gretzky(most Canucks fans would have you believe they're better) their point totals can only be expected to be in the 50-60 point range this upcoming season. By time they hit 38, they'll be 30-40 point players. Just don't see nostalgia being worth 14 million in the cap hit era. |

Never attached. It's a business. Take anyone who can help Van win the cup. Unless miracles happen, just have to wait for the mess to go away. (Contracts run out). |

You can't wait three years to start something that you know you need to eventually do. Bad business.
The fact is you have twelve roster spots at forward right now for 18 forwards that are ready to play NHL . What do you do? |

The start of something was three years ago. You try and trade for fair value if not the players that are in the minors, stay there. |

What did we start three years ago ? I hope you don't mean a rebuild . We should have started but we sure as hell didn't. So waiting another three years will make us 6 years late.
Are you suggesting keeping Baertschi and Gaunce down on the Comets two more years until Higgins and Burrows contract expires? |

I don't believe in rebuilds. A retool maybe. Will be a better team if we don't decide to tank. Baert could be ready, as for the rest, they are showing promise but you could clearly see the difference in players like Larkin compared to gaunce, grenier, Shink. Larkin is NHL ready. One season that shows promise doesn't gaurantee a spot on the team. |

Not sure about Gaunce, But Baertschi needs a chance to play full time. It's do or die for him. But Higgins needs to go to clear out that spot for him. |

I don't know what the Canucks are doing. They look like they're trying to make the playoffs tho. Still 10-7th place is the furthest away from the cup you could ever be, more often than not. |

I will take Gaunces one year of promise over Higgins two years of decline .
How is rebuild the same as tank?
You have a core that over and over show that they are no better than middle of the line. Serious question are you that afraid of losing mediocracy?
Is that what you strive for for the next three years , to be stuck in the middle? |

The problems is, where are you going to replace that 30-50 points with? Unless you retain 3 mil on each Sedin, you aren't going to get anything back for them and that is going to hamper you cap-wise until their contract expires. Personally, I'd like them on July 1 to say, "We're retiring" |

I get that it can happen, but if that's the best you can hope for every year, an 7th or 8th place finish, chances are you fall short and finish 9th or get bounced in the 1st. |
