If you read my previous comments I stated that there is no way we will ever trade them. Also, that if we were to eat $3M each, they would be very affordable and would be worth a boatload in trade.

Ya I read your previous posts yet you still followed up with the one I quoted which is still nuts.

And you suggest the Canucks essentially pay the equivalent on one Sedin contract to move them? Not going to happen....doesn't make sense from a business perspective.....even if it gets you a "boatload"........the aquilinis maybe wealthy but they ain't got MLSE money nor get they get wealthy by giving away money....

IF the Sedins are traded it would be after next season, IF we are NOT contenders.
if we aren't contenders does it really matter if we keep 3mil from each if we are getting a bunch of picks and prospects? 6 mil for a max of 2 years doesnt really matter since we wont be contending and wont be near the cap.

Holy crap. What I said was that if we wanted to trade them we could. Their cap hits wouldn't prevent it if we wanted to cause we could eat salary in return and that if, for whatever reason, the team decided that was the best course of action, we would not be contenders at that point, so not spending to the cap wouldn't be an issue.

As far as business sense, it absolutely does. If it was just about business they would try and trade them. The dollars are getting spent either way, so eating $12M (approx numbers based on trading them at or towards the end of this season) to build a long term contender or potential championship team makes perfect business sense. Winning equals money. Is it worth $12M to the franchise (keep in mind it's cap space they'd spend either way) for a couple 1st round picks and 2-3 top prospects? Business wise it would.

Once again, they will in all likelihood never leave. Of course, people also thought that about Iginla, Bourque, Smyth, Alfredson, Sundin...

Nah it's definitely not that. It's something but I am sure she can find someone with more than 37 dollars

I had 37 dollars, but I just spent it on a bottle of wine. It's a good thing that my wife likes wine.

one thing I have learned with Canuck fans is the name on the back of the sweater is way more important than the name on the front.

You're projecting.....if the name is Sedin, they're gone regardless of the scenario....you have tunnel vision....

(frank) I hate tanking and the fact the matter is that the NHL is changing the rules of the lottery to prevent it so there's that...

So Doug Wilson has his first in play - or not ruling out trading it?

Does he actually remember what he says? I read a week ago where he was self congratulating due to all the picks they had. He was quoted saying they specifically pin pointed this years draft due to its depth & worked to get as many picks as they could - so now he is saying he is open to trading that first? That's a little contradictory isn't it? Did someone ask him how big Joe is going lately?

Was thinking this might work for Van, before remembering we don't have many picks this year, so....some other team should consider doing something similar to how SJ managed to acquire Niemi from Chi a few years back.... target Ottawa and keep offer sheeting their young guns.
Ott have Stone (23) Hoffman (25) and Zibanejad (22) all young promising RFAs.
Go after one, then another and another all with $5.47 offers until they can't match any longer (compensation only 1st/3rd).

I don't think they are gone but the fact that it is not even an option in Vancouver shows that people here look at the name on the back.

As KB pointed out other teams did sY goodbye to franchise players and succeed.they have pulled in nice hauls in assets and have become competitive right after .

We trending down and as one poster said Tanev is an untouchable. This team and its history should not have an untouchable. We have about 10 of them including Higgins

You need your original picks to offer sheet another team

10. A perfect example of that would be Vancouver. The Canucks are surrounded by teams that are a fit for Eddie Lack, in particular. He’d be useful for Calgary, Edmonton or San Jose but would Jim Benning want to help any of them? I doubt it. I’ve referenced it before, but hours prior to Cory Schneider’s trade to New Jersey, the Canucks and Oilers talked about it, with Vancouver wanting a first-rounder, a second-rounder and Martin Marincin. A team in their division was going to pay a higher price than the Devils. Different regime now, but can’t imagine the philosophy easing at all.

Lack for Dillon

Bieksa to Det for a second

Edler to Colorado for their first

This is a good example of the east coast disconnect from the west. Benning said last season he never understood why GM's won't trade within the division. Makes for an interesting read though Elliote, just not accurate.
