Doesn't cost much of anything except money.

Like Sekac in Montreal last season.

Wedgie's Plan to Keep Dion (And Make Him More Productive)

I know you guys all want to get rid of him for peanuts, but I really feel like what we need to do is find the right partner for him, which will take some weight off his shoulders and let him start playing his own game.

Using super-advanced statistics, here's what I figure would best complement his game:

First, he should be a Right Defenseman, about 6'1 190lbs.

23 years old.

The ability to put up about 32 points in a league. He may not be in the NHL right now, but 32 points in any Euro league would be acceptable. Would be a bonus if he led the league.

His resume should have a few seasons of solid, but unspectacular play. By that I mean good, but not really providing enough impetus for a team to sign him. But still, high in points and blocked shots. And double digits in PP goals.

Here's an important point, though: the guy needs to have a wicked one-timer from the point on the powerplay.

Should be able to play a lot of minutes overall.

Should have a backgrounder as a defensive defender who plays physical, but has demonstrated recently that he can score points when allowed to explore his offensive game, while maintaining his defensive posture.

If Shanny can find a guy like that, we should keep Dion, and cheer them both on in the playoffs in 2015-16.

Just sayin'...

That's just Gandler sending the message to the Leafs: no signing without giving Gandler a suitcase full of cash.

It's fine if he stays in the KHL, but did the Leafs actually sign him to an entry level deal?

I will say, up until the RC firing DP played his best hockey as a Leaf with Franson. Which is probably the best guy he's played with since being here. But Dion (frank)ed up when he wanted top 5 money and now top 10, pretty tough to have a great partner on a cap squeeze...
