Why do you say that? Isn't it more important to have a couple of really good centres than wingers? Cups are usually won with great centres and D.

Moving an All-Star winger out over a prospect centre for a team that struggles to score is crazy to me. Nuge, McDavid and Lander will be fine centre depth but the Oilers are still pretty thin on the wings if you move Hall or Ebs.

Ok then , who would you propose to move to get that 1 or 2 Dman the Oil desperately need?

Honestly I wouldn't trade any forwards. I would trade one of Marincin/Schultz and the 16th overall for a top pairing defender and I would try to sign another guy in free agency. Wait for Nurse to develop and go from there.

What happens when one of Hall or Eberle is moved? The Oilers won't be able to score and they'll be on the market looking for a scoring winger to play with Nuge/McDavid/Draisaitl.

I'm thinking of making that my new personal motto.

Sounds reasonable , I hope we will make some moves at the draft , I just want the boys to start looking like an NHL team again , rather sooner than later.

A goalie can either be signed or brought in with a 3rd rounder, maybe a 2nd rounder. A top pairing guy like Bouwmeester might be had for the 16th and Marincin. Sign either Green, Ehrhoff or Sekera for a reasonable amount and the Oilers don't look half bad going into next season.

I doubt any of those three get signed for "a reasonable amount."

Ehrhoff may end up doing another 1 year though with somebody.

Cap hit isn't my worry, I'm more scared of a long term deal with someone.

The Oilers don't need to trade for this supposed "stud" kid that other teams are giving away either. Nurse is the Oilers stud and they don't need to move big name players for other teams top prospects that MIGHT turn into good players.

It makes no sense to trade any of our young players under contract for a good few years for an older D that will walk as a free agency in a few years. That's a concern in Edmonton.
As for younger D with good term or RFA status ? None are available so it's a moot point.

I don't think anyone would balk at an opportunity to get a Fowler, Braun , Jones for one of our young guns but those guys aren't available so why bother?

The absolute worst thing we can do is trade for a long term contract like Phaneuf or sign a UFA to too much money for God damned long like Green.

Well you already know I think as far as the Oilers build goes, you and I share similar philosphies....there's no need to give you an HJ.

Agreed, a quality group of defensemen is what the Oilers really could use. Not more guys with bad habits. There appears to be a tipping point with some of your guys where bad habits are increasing more than positive growth. Phaneuf or Green would merely regress in such an environment.

Sekera would be a step in the right direction though. Some stability via Beauchemin, Sekera, ect would put Fayne (among others) into a more comfortable reduced role that would help produce wins and, in turn, develop habits that lead to a more solid defence team-wide.
