But my proposal wasn't getting rid of a terrible contract for good players. The idea was to take on a bad contract to get a better pick. I know Carolina wants to move Semin and the contract. The idea would be to take on the contract and the pick would be the compensation.

It was just a thought. Just like Buffalo is willing to take on money if picks are included with the deal.

Yes, but Buffalo has the cap space to take on a bad contract or two. The Flyers don't.

I thought they were trying to move away from albatrosses, not take more of them.

I guess hypothetically if I was able to get two picks in the top 10 I might be ok taking on the Semin deal. I think he can still do more then Vinny in the scoring department. I know it's not ideal. Was just looking at how to get into the top 10 and get two impact guys.

I know how far fetched it seems. But I think we will see a deal at the draft by someone that sends a pick with a bad contract to get it off the cap. Buffalo is said to be interested in that type of deal.

No interest in taking on $21m worth of Semin.

5th-overall could turn into a franchise-player... they're not dumping that to get rid of $21M in salary commitments. They've been happily paying Cam Ward to be mediocre for how long now...?

Not to mention, how the heck are the Flyers gonna absorb Semin's money w/o sending at least one of Vinnyburger the other way? Which would defeat the entire point of the deal in the first place for the 'Canes...

I know.

That's why I said I would deal with the cap later. Terminate/buyout the Vinny deal. Move Grossmann. Move Streit.

I understand it would be hard and improbable.

But I would be excited if the Flyers were able to get Marner and Provorov

Just isn't worth it to drop 26 spots in this draft to lose Semin.

Any responsible GM wouldn't just say "I will deal with the cap later." You can't just assume that you'll be able to make the moves you want to. That's some Holmgren thinking.

Fair enough. I know you're just having fun, but there's no way the Canes would do that, and there's no way the Flyers could financially do it (unless they are able to move two of VLC/Umberger/Grossmann before that trade). Technically, I don't think they're allowed, as the summer 10% overage won't have kicked in, which is what they'd need to fit him.

Vinny (post-July 1 bonus payout) to the Canes for Semin (salary retained at $4.5M/per equal to Vinny's deal) and the 66th-overall pick.

Cane's save real $: Vinny's backdiving deal + $2.5M they retained on Semin > $21M.

Flyers turn a superfluous C into a LW'er who can still play when he wants to. And they add a high-ish pick.

Yeah. It would be tough. It was just an idea. Also I think if the Flyers were able to get Provorov it would allow you to move someone like Hagg for a winger. just an example, Hagg to CBJ for Rychel or maybe something like Hagg to DET for Mantha. Young player for Young player type of deal

If Hextall could turn Hagg (who I really like and am still high on) into Mantha, I'll begin building the 35-foot Hextall bronze statue.

That's actually intriguing.

What about adding Luke Schenn or Grossmann to the deal. Carolina could use some defenders. I know they have some young guys but not sure how close they are.

I can't believe the Sens are considering trading Lehner just because Hammond had a nice 24-game run... it's like they've never heard of Michael Leighton before.

And people here doubt that some of us here wouldn't be better GMs than what is out there.

I mean the guy stank in Bingo up to that point, and he was basically an ECHL goalie. He doesn't even have Leighton's AHL pedigree.

Did one on Provorov. May do ones on Hanafin and Werenski, too. My gut feeling is they may go D if there's a run on forwards in the top six --- five or six forwards taken. If there are two D in the top six, pretty confident they go with a forward.

Agreed, but Leighton was a guy who'd been in the NHL before and was never able to stick. He'd been around and around and around and just got hot for 1/2 season. Hammond at least was able to stick his first shot. Probably fool's gold, though.

Creative, somewhat realistic, and arguably worthwhile for both teams. I'm sure the Canes would much rather give up the 93rd or the 96th than the 66th, but there's a framework there. And they'd be saving at least $5m.

Raleigh is the type of low-key, place an old married guy like Vinny should be OK moving to for the last years of his career.

I'd be very appreciative if Crouse goes in the top-6. I just don't like him, and would prefer any of the other top-10 projected players.

Carolina would never give up Hanifin or Strome or Marner just to lose three years of Semin.
