Just smoked one too, having some tea instead though. I crushed through my beers yesterday, the weather was perfect out on my deck. Only a lonely single beer remains. Le sigh une.

Yeah, I agree Babcock would do that. He had no problem starting Mrazek over Howard in the playoffs this year.
I also agree with that view. Hope it happens. I just trying to pander to the "Tank Nation" crowd.

Tanking is over. With the top 3 picks being lotteried off, the whole notion just isn't the same as it was.

Now, it's best to hope for a competitive team and one that will play the youth and hopefully they pan out. Keep your picks and keep building through the draft. There is no timetable for any rebuild. You either succeed in building a winner or you don't, and how long a rebuild takes depends on whether those young players you drafted and developed are good enough to win you games. Then you add big name veterans through trade and UFA and giddy up.

That's why I laugh when some here debate how long our rebuild will take. That all depends on whether our Nylanders, Riellys, 4th overall etc become either star or top level players. Does Kadri break out? Can this team play as a team and play both ends. It could take 2 years, could take 5, or it might not take at all. Time will tell, and that's why this draft is so important IMO. High pick, and another bonus late 1st. They need a home run of a pick.

So do I want this team to tank? No. Why? Because it means the guys we have aren't good enough, and the guys we draft will be entering and developing in a losing environment. Not ideal to producing guys with confidence and the taste and understanding of how to win. Also, might I add, here we are with 4th overall and so much talk from fans and media about trading the pick. Why even bother with all that tank talk we endured all season and still talk about today?

Bingo. This franchise has been losing for too long, tanking is not an option. Get better at drafting, quit making stupid trades, play the youth and teach what it takes to win. A winning culture is the culture change this team needs.
The leafs have some decent pieces, they arent trading everyone and filling the line up with scrubs.
Thats just foolish to think

I agree with everything you've said. I want the Leafs to put effort into every game, and make it difficult for the opposing team to win. If the Leafs lose; high draft pick. If they win; establishing a winning culture.
I expect the team to do poorly in the standings for at least 3 years, if it's a little longer, so be it.

Unless Provorov is as good as Hannifin, or Barzal is as good as Marner/Strome in mangement eyes, to justify trading down a couple slots whilst adding draft pick(s). I'll be fine with that.

This. It makes me laugh when people are talking about trading down. This is the highest we've picked in 25 years and people wanna pick lower. Ha. To be fair, they are the same people who hate Kessel and Phaneuf's contract, but would like to trade for Richards and Semin.

Agreed. Put it this way, if you have some of your young guys playing, like Rielly, Kadri, for the sake of argument Nylander, Brown, Percy, whoever...you do want to see some signs of life from them. If they are absolutely dead last, and lifeless, that's a little concerning. They shoudn't trade for vets or add big UFAs to try to climb the standings, but still, you want to see some competitiveness with what you have.

Goon Tank! Lets show character and give the fans a show, while finishing near the bottom. Lets ace the defenseman Mathews, out of the 2016 draft, and then hit the excellerator, a year from now.

Hopefully that's where Babcock succeeds in making it a hard team to play against even if they don't have the horses yet or guys haven't developed. I'd be okay with them drafting a little higher if they showed a lot of spark, than have them finish last because they absolutely sucked poop.

Maybe we do take a defenseman this year, if this guy comes available, a year from now.....fear not, Uncle Gary will ensure that he lands in the desert at all costs.
