Well we don't know for sure of course, but I'm hoping they are a little better than just a playoff contender by then. Otherwise it means they are still sitting around the 7 through 10 spot and we've spent too many years doing that. If that's all the progress we make in 5 years we'll be blowing it up again.

Somebody posted on FB that Kessel's 8-team list includes Phi, Mtl, Min, Chi, LA, NYR, Pit & Bos (Wow). Not sure the source, but if it's true, that will be tough.

Maybe contender us a bit strong but it's possible. As long as they are going in the right direction and showing signs that they will be in the playoffs on a regular basis. Maybe the starting point for that should be 4-5 years.

Huh? A Hodgson signing with the Leafs will be a very low risk situation and only happen if he is bought out. This is nowhere near the same thing as trading for Phaneuf.

If you do a half build and keep most the young players you have now like Kadri, JVR, Gardiner, Rielly, and Bernier, it's possible. If you want to blow those guys for picks it will take longer.
