Uh, when did I ever mention Dion for Draisatl?
I said you are not getting Rielly for him and rightfully so. Those trophies don't mean sh1t to me. - Aetherial
I was only kidding. I put the Rielly trade in response to an equally bad trade for LD. Settle down.
And those trophies dont need to mean anything. Neither do stats, Damien Cox articles, or messages in a bottle washed up on the shores of Lake Erie.
There is nothing that garauntees Marner or Strome will be better or even likely than Leon Draisaitl for the majority of their respected careers. But you can hope. |

This summer is going to suck for hockey talk. Even more so than usual. - BetterCallSaul
But at least most of the current debates will be put to rest. Hopefully there will be some new storylines to discuss. |

That is shocking information.

If Draisaitl of last year was drafted this year, he'd go 6-8. You can't say "WHL/Mem Cup mvp"... he didn't win those last year.
If Strome or Marner spent another year in the O, chances are, they'd tear that league apart.
What gives Drai a little extra value now is his year of development. - archromat
I was hoping I wouldn't be the only one to see this side of the "argument".
Debating prospects is silly. No one on these boards really know jack about most of them. |

All that fire power and finesse is great but there needs to be some grit and muscle in there somewhere. Otherwise it's basically Dancing with the stars. - Phenom

No they won't. Instead of "We should draft Hanifin/Marner/Strome." it will be "We should have drafted Hanifin/Marner/Strome." |

I think the Carolina fanbase is split 1 vote each on whether they would. - Aetherial
Carolina's in an interesting situation. Hanifin could fall to fifth and he's not really what that franchise needs; I think Francis would be better off trading down and drafting Provorov in that case.
If Hanifin does fall to 5, the value of their pick goes up substantially for teams looking for that kind of defenseman. CBJ, Phil, and Col would get into a small bidding war to trade up... might even bring in more than a Draisaitl would, but if I was Edmonton, I would still strongly consider it because Hanifin is the kind of first-pass skating defenseman that would be ideal with those forwards. |

No. - Aetherial
Maybe he doesnt...but that was the general consensus going into the drat a year ago, was that he had that potential. He isnt a slam dunk, but the tools are there. His potential hasnt somehow decreased, has it? |

If Hanafin was available at 5, I think the Oilers have to try to make that deal. I am not sure Carolina does, no idea really.

All of the guys we have discussed have that potential. I do not believe it will happen for Draisatl.
I feel the same way about Strome.

Here's the issue with this line of thinking; If Carolina would rather have Provorov and an extra asset over Hanifin, why would Philly, CBJ, and Col get in a bidding war for Hanifin instead of just keeping their assets and drafting Provorov? |

100% Bubba. It isnt a slam dunk either way. For all we know the 28th picked player might end up being the 2nd best player in this years draft. |

Look at the Art Ross winner this past season. 5th round pick, or something like that. |

I suspect that McDavid and Eichel will be as advertised. Then guys like Barzal, Rantanen, Provorov will end up being better than Hanafin/Strome/Marner
No real reason, just a guess.

And look at the last deep draft of 2003.....lots of awesome players....but they sure as poop werent picked in that order. Marner might be the Next Zherdev for all we truly know. |
