Again, I think the prob with the 2nd unit is more a combo of Personnel and time on ice than coaching.
They don't get much time to work with and had a couple of guys, mainly AMac and Umberger, who have no business playing on an NHL powerplay at this point.

Get Mullen some better talent for the 2nd unit and give em a bit more time to work with and I think you will see much better results. Giroux and Simmonds and Streit may be excellent on the PP, but don't sell Mullen short.
The 01-02 Flyers had guys like Recchi, Gagne, Primeau, Desjardins, Leclair and Roenick and had one of the worst powerplays in the league. No matter who you have out there, coaching makes a difference.

Definetly a valid opinion. I just want sweeping change. Basically for the sake of it

The Leafs blog today mentions the possibility of the Leafs trading down from 4 to 6 or 7 and adding picks. The idea would be the Flyers or Jackets trading up for Hanifin or Provorov.

I think this is major wishful thinking on the part of the Leafs and the Flyers would have no interest in this, particularly when there is a decent chance one of them is there at 7.

Why? It is very possible that neither will be there at 7. Hanifin, Strome, Marner, and Provorov are considered by many the next best after McDavid and Eichel. The Flyers would be counting on someone to draft Barzal or another forward instead of one of those 4 guys. Bill had mentioned that Provorov was seen as a franchise defenseman by some scouts. That will be very hard for teams to pass up.

If they hire Goehring as goalie coach you have to figure Goebbels will be an assistant.

I'll show myself out.

It would make much more sense that Columbus would want to trade up than the flyers.

Jeff is about to be hired by Dallas. But he wasn't coming back regardless. The DN report about his departure was inaccurate, so whether Chief was still here or not made no difference.

I'd stay at 7 and if Hanifin or Provorov were off the board and I wanted D, I'd go with Werenski. Hextall would reeeealy have to like Hanifin or Provorov to make that deal. The talent difference between those two and Werenski don't seem seem to be worth giving picks away for.

And I've got a sneaky feeling that Hanifin is going to be the Seth Jones of this draft and drop a bit.

Yup. If we're moving up from 7 in this draft it would have to be for a forward. Pretty solid chance that two of Hanifin, Provorov & Werenksi will be available at 7. If not it means Marner just fell in our laps.

Any idea if the reports about the Flyers possibly getting compensation for Dallas hiring Reese are true? I thought it was limited to NHL head coaches, GMs, and maybe AHL head coaches. These compensation rules for non-player transactions confuse me, especially when they involved guys that have been fired.

If Hexy believes Hanifin or Provorov is a #1 dman, I definitely want him to go up to #3 or #4 to get his guy. If that means, giving up the Bolts pick so be it.

I look back to the '13 draft. No need to go up and get Jones because you can just get Nurse, Ristolainen, or Morin at your spot. For me, that makes no sense. Finding a #1 dmen is very rare, and I don't want Hexy to put all of his eggs in the Sanheim basket.

I would be thrilled if the Flyers traded up to get Strome, Marner, Hanifin, or Provorov. Getting an elite prospect in a deep prospect pool is not a bad thing. You just have to trust your scouting staff and GM to make the right choice.

Hope the Flyers stay put. They are going to have to give up additional player(s) to move up. Plenty of good options at 7 without having to give up a key component to the team.

I've read a few posts about potentially trading Laughton as part of a package to move up in the first round, which is an interesting idea.

In the '12, the following is five picks before Laughton

-Cody Ceci
-Tom Wilson
-Tomas Hertl
-Teuvo Teravainen
-Andrei Vasilevskiy

If I recall, Bill mentioned in blogs before that draft, the Flyers really liked Tervainen. Sometimes spending a little extra can get a team an elite prospect as opposed to a very good one (I understand at this point the jury is still out on Laughton).
