i was hoping to get some clarity here
there have been several mutual terminations, the details of most probably to boring to report on. But Brunner, kostitsyn, sykora all seemed to refuse assignment to the AHL - causing a breach in contract.
A player breach of his contract seems to be the key event needed to allow for a mutual termination. I've haven't seen anything on a simple walk away.
I suppose there are other ways to breach a contract, but the sample is pretty limited and the ahl demotion seems like the cleanest route; also allows for the team to control the process. - Tumbleweed
Basically, how it's been broached is, Hextall refuses to buy Vinny out or retain salary in a trade, which means another year for Vinny as a 4th liner or spare forward. He's repeatedly said he wants to play in a scoring line role and wants out if that won't happen in Philly.
So it's a Mexican standoff between Hextall and Lecavalier. If Vinny wants to play, he's most likely going to need Hextall to change his mind on a buyout or eating salary in trade, or he can go to Hextall and say he wants to terminate the deal. In that case the contract basically gets torn up and he's. UFA.
Normally there's unconditional waivers, but Vinny can block that with his NMC, and then he's free, but walking away from $8.5mm over the next few years. |

refusing assignment is not mutual termination. this does not apply to the vinny situtation - jmdodgeser4
agreed, the way i understand it is refusing assignment is a breach of contract. Upon a breach of contract, the team and player may opt to mutually terminate.
Agreed it doesn't apply to Vinny; re: NMC.
Do you see a possibility for a mutual termination with Vinny? |

I'd be happy if the Flyers drafted him. I see in the TSN1260 mock draft, Anthony Mingioni drafted Provorov for the Flyers. With how things fell in that one (McEichel, Strome, Marner, Hanifin, Zacha), I'd be very torn between Provorov and Barzal. Wouldn't be upset with Rantanen either. Can't really complain about picking 7th this year, plenty of solid players should be there. - five4fighting10
There's 10-12 guys I'd be happy withat 7. I'd even be fine with the dreaded Lawson Crouse |

At first I wasn't a fan, but he's definitely grown on me especially when you take into account his birthday and the role he played both in juniors and at the WJC. |

The most i would give up is a 3rd round pick for him. Completly not worth it |

I think think they get a package of quantity, similar to what nash brought back for columbus.
if the leafs take back a poopty contract, i'd expect an increase in the quality of the pieces coming back. |
