You can just get a chromecast. Puts everything that's in your chrome window on screen, no hassle.

And people may not know this, but Chrome can play videos from your local drive.

I'll hand them their education for sure, other things should be earned to a certain degree... anything left will focus on that

If you are planning on having kids in California, start saving.

A friend just dropped $50,000 to have her kid. She had great health insurance, and a normal delivery.

I disagree my kids aren't getting poop handed to them ever.

You wanna live like Daddy, you better go work like Daddy

There is a difference between spoiling your kids, and not having them worry about debt and school the way I did.

There is nothing wrong with helping them out along the way. They should be the most important concern in your life.

My parents' philosophy was they gave me everything I needed, which was not the same as everything I wanted.

Mrs Lums would probably come back over the border... make sure that they get the Canadian passports and free delivery...

(Though working at a university with a decent medical school also helps)

I gained a lot by doing everything myself. I'm not giving them much thats for damn sure.

I always had food and shelter and clothes and never went without but they made me work hard and accomplish things on my own. That's how life works, my kids are not getting the easy way out of anything.

That being said i wouldnt let them go bankrupt or miss out on an education just to prove a point lol

My parents are very clingy, I'm 26 and if they had their way I'd still be living at home.

So with that in mind, I'm going to cover my kids until they're done school. One degree/diploma/certificate only. After that, they'd better find a job ASAP.

This. My first financial obligation is RESPs for my 3 kids, then RSPs for us and then TFSAs.

my goal is to get my 3 kids through school debt free, but they are on the hook for everything else, including weddings.

my view is the biggest waist of money is the money spent on one day/party and I will be doing my best to stress that a good wedding does not have to cost much. Mine was just under 5K for about 110 guests at the Bellamere winery in London.

Don't let your kids marry a Greek, Italian, Indian or Chinese kid.

Or you'll have no choice - huge wedding.

My parents sent me to Italy for a whole summer to stay with my grand parents to teach me what it was like to work and help out. Lesson learned quickly, eye opening experience on how it was for him, they still lived in the same house and small mountain town he grew up in.
