$5.5 Million for Petry...

Anyone defending that deal can never speak of Phaneuf being overpaid again...

If Petry continues to play as well as he did for Montreal last year the deal is good. I think it's pretty risky signing a guy like that for six years based on a small sample size but he would have got the same money or more as a UFA.

And yes last year he was as good as Phaneuf. Different playstyle but around as effective overall imo.

If Weber and Suter's deals were done post lockout, the landscape would be much different. Weber makes $14 M a year right now...
Most of the Elite dmen contracts are illegal now, and cap hits on their deals are artificially low.

Hell we all expected Franson to sign for close to $6M... Well, before he went and played for a team with good players

exactly. i don't think Petry's deal is a great deal but i don't think it's a bad deal. i think it's what you have to pay for a competent 20+ minute dman these days. occasionally you'll see steals like the Stralman deal last year but for the most part, these are the average deals.

It's a stupid deal considering how much money they have already invested on the back end.

maybe it is. but that's why GMs are GMs and we're not. they and their teams are supposed to be able to make educated judgments on that.

you make it sound like Bergevin is moving into a shack in Guam for the next 3 months. there's a reason he did this move before the draft/trading season. this won't be his only move.

That was the cost of keeping him. They gambled on the deal because they need him. What else can a team do, bank on overpaying for Franson instead on July 1st? Yikes.

I hope he has a deal in place for Emelin and/or Markov. Otherwise, this is nuts.

I know you didn't watch the playoffs so I won't bother arguing who's the better player of the two.

Gardiner and Franson were a beastly playoff pairing.

Getting tired with the Adblock banner, every time you change threads. I dropped Adblock for a month, but the ads on here are too intrusive. I'd leave Hockeybuzz in my browser, and when I was working at mixing CD's, one of the ad's would come alive and go through my sound card....hence, the need for Adblock.

Message to Ek, and whoever runs this site.....if you want people to not use blocking software, then get rid of the intrusive ads that bleed into other programs. It's a disgrace and should not be tolerated.

- PrinceLH

Solution 1 - close your browser or HB tab.

Solution 2 - Pay for a season ticket

Solution 3 - Be quiet or start your own site.
