I would argue that Murray's reputation is based largely on past and not recent accomplishments. He has had three non-playoff years with the Phantoms. While his roster in ADK was not stocked, neither was the competition in the division that they were in. One year in Lehigh Valley, with a far superior roster and near-NHL level facilities, and the team still under performed. Look at the AHL rankings for PP & PK. Awful.

There have been no notable graduates from Murray's Phantoms teams. There have been a couple players who played a few AHL games who have had modest success, but none that Murray really helped push to the next level. See Read & Raffl as examples. Conversely, I use Brandon Alderson as an example of the opposite. Expected to be a strong candidate to push for an NHL job, Alderson regressed and finished the ECHL playoffs as a scratch. I am not a fan of Terry Murray, the nurturing and wise teacher of today's young players.

I do, however, see a value of Murray as a mentor to Hakstol. There will obviously be situations and circumstances in the NHL which a college coach never experienced.

I said the same thing, not as well, yesterday. I cited Haag instead of Alderson.

Expect to be chided.

So we're pretending Hagg's first full season in America was a bad one because we don't like Terry Murray? That's kind of weird.

Not at all. I'm just saying he didn't progress as well as I hoped. It's just me, no one else saying it. Maybe a different coach could have coaxed more out of him. I'm not even saying he didn't learn and advance, just not nearly as much as I wanted from a player originally projected to be a first round pick that slipped.

OB and Jsaq are saying two more years in the WHL and then at least one, maybe three full seasons in the AHL. I think most agree.

He's my second line center in 2015-16

Over the last ten years or so high-end skilled forwards selected within the top 10 picks usually have reached the NHL within 1-2 years. Power forwards can take a little longer.

I think next year back in Seattle, and then he challenges for a job out of camp.

He's not going to be chided, he made a reasonable argument against Murray. I don't agree with it, but at least his opinion actually had some substance to it and wasn't just "he's an old retread, so he's disqualified".

Barzal's on the smaller side so I think he follows this career trajectory.

It's not that it was a bad season. It's that he seemed to get worse as the season went on.

That's type of instant elite scoring in the NHL is unlikely even for Marner, let alone Barzal.

Yeah, it's shocking that a 19 year old Swede playing a full season on small ice for the first time in his career on a team that lost Ghost, Alt and Manning for prolonged stretches hit a wall later in the season. Old Man Murray should have prevented that somehow.

Now that Terry Murray won't be in Lehigh Valley holding back yet another can't miss prospect in the fully stocked Philadelphia Flyers system, you can expect Barzal to need only about 10 AHL games before he is fully ready to take the NHL by storm.

Did you even watch them? They were terrible. They would have been even worse if not for a strong showing in shootouts.

Told you you couldn't read for comprehension. What he said was what I said yesterday about the team not competing and players not progressing and Murray resting on some old reputations from his days in Washington.

And I never said he was "disqualified". I said he wouldn't be my choice.

You stink at this. You truly do.

Why are you singling out Hagg if you think the whole team was terrible?

And Murray's to blame for a undrafted afterthought like Alderson ending up in the AHL, but I guess Cousins and Manning reaching career highs had nothing to do with him, right.

He must have gotten tired from all that skating on the smaller ice surface.
