That's fine, but in my opinion, other than just not liking the idea, I haven't read in my opinion one single legitimate reason why it's not a good idea, in your posts on the subject.

Your comprehension is poor. I think this thread has established that if nothing else over the years. You read what you want to read and that's about as much as you can do.

Perhaps a spatial anomaly or a rift in the time space continuum.

He's a terrific retread candidate. Flyers need more of those. I hear Craig Berube's available.

How'd I do? Are these facts? Or just opinion?

How many of the coaching vacancies around the NHL did Berube interview for?

Hopefully all of them. I'm hoping he lands in NJ. We could use another third round pick.

They were drafting as early as they could. You can hit or miss. They missed. They missed Weber and Suban after the first round. They traded up to get Pitkanen and that didn't work out. They drafted Woywitka with a first round pick. They sprink;ed in D in the second and through out the draft all along. It's not a lack of trying it's a lack of drafting the right guy. Every team wants to draft a premier defenseman. Only a handful of teams actually do it. If you aren't picking early it's a crap shoot.

In a 10 year period from 2002 to 2011, they drafted 75 players. 28% of those players were Dmen. By round, that breaks down to:

1st - 2
2nd - 3
3rd - 4
4th - 5
5th - 1
6th - 4
7th - 2
8th - 1

So 5 out of 75 players were picked in the 1st two rounds, or a paltry 6.67%.

Contrast that with the last 3 years, where they've drafted 19 players total, 9 of whom are dmen. That's 47%. Three of the 9 were drafted in the 1st or 2nd round, and five in the first 3 rounds.

That's a much bigger investment in Defense than they made in the 10 years beforehand.

I mean does Murray still have aspirations at 65 years of age to be an NHL head coach? What motivation is there for him?

You didn't take into consideration the lack of picks. 3 of the ten yrs you polled they didn't have a pick until round 3. In five others they didn't have a second round pick. That's 11 of a possible 20 picks. Hard to pick D in the top two rounds if you don't have a pick.

In the time you looked at (10 yrs) in the first two rounds they had 12 picks. 8 firsts and 4 seconds. They took 3 centers, 3 RWs, 1 LW and 5 D. That's over 40% D picks. D only makes up 30% of your starting roster.

I think they were picking D.

I would argue that Murray's reputation is based largely on past and not recent accomplishments. He has had three non-playoff years with the Phantoms. While his roster in ADK was not stocked, neither was the competition in the division that they were in. One year in Lehigh Valley, with a far superior roster and near-NHL level facilities, and the team still under performed. Look at the AHL rankings for PP & PK. Awful.

There have been no notable graduates from Murray's Phantoms teams. There have been a couple players who played a few AHL games who have had modest success, but none that Murray really helped push to the next level. See Read & Raffl as examples. Conversely, I use Brandon Alderson as an example of the opposite. Expected to be a strong candidate to push for an NHL job, Alderson regressed and finished the ECHL playoffs as a scratch. I am not a fan of Terry Murray, the nurturing and wise teacher of today's young players.

I do, however, see a value of Murray as a mentor to Hakstol. There will obviously be situations and circumstances in the NHL which a college coach never experienced.
