I agree, it still isn't a bad deal, but guys thinking the moon is coming back need to calm down, there will be few suitors, and he has to want to go to one of them, then they have to make a deal from a relative position of weakness. A 1st, 2nd, prospect and salary dump is likely IMO... - aminnes
Right...and if its the right "dump" it could turn out being 2 first rounders, a 2nd and a prospect come this time next year! |

Fancy Stats?... So the Leafs having one of the best scoring lines and yet all three are brutal minuses means nothing?... But you are comparing players... - aminnes
the fancy stats hate them because their Corsi sucks, not because the +/-. fancy stats says that in the long run, shot attempts are a better way to judge hockey teams and players than goals for/goals against. because really, +/- and corsi share a lot similar fundamental values: they're both highly dependent on system and teammates when judging an individual player. |

Better yet they don't pay any attention to "advanced stats". |

Point is we will get a return that suits our future better than kessel period. Ppl will moan and say how much of a pure scorer he is etc. Point is it's not working here with him and never will. That's not because he's terrible, just the way she goes. If he sits here for 7 more years because we don't get the offer we want, that's an even bigger waste than taking even a 1st rounder for him (who knows what the 1st rounder will be? maybe a star? maybe a dud? we do know for sure that kessel doesn't work here).
We are giving up a great offensive guy, but it has to happen. he was in the top 10 in scoring over and over and where did we go but the basement.
He will be moved and the return will forever be scrutinized but keeping him here makes zero sense. Point to all his accolades all you want, keeping him here will be a repeat of the last 5/6 years but only worse since the 'team' around him will be stripped down. He can get 60 goals next year and guess what, we'll still be a basement dweller. Time to move on. |

All 3 are lazy defenders, and the plus minus just rubs it in your face. All a guy has to do is listen to JVR calling for passes from centre and the picture is very clear. People need to watch games and stop basing everything on goals and assists. There are good teams that score a lot less than the leafs, and no top line has even close to the negative minus they do... |

The 2nd first would be next year by trading the player they acquired along with the 1st they got this year |

How about JVR... if you can get a pick in the top 10 this year for him, do you move him?

What makes you think those prospects we get will turn out? You can get the best prospects from a team and they still may not turn out. Case in point, Oilers and their draft picks. |

How does scoring 30-35 goals every year (except this past one) not work here?
Keeping him here will not be a repeat of the past 5/6 years.
Leafs will need scoring in 2 years time.
But if they decide to move him......you give him a chance this year to raise his value.
Trading him now while his value is at an all time low.....is stupid.

Kessel wont be traded - Fakepartofme
i highly doubt any huge trades are made unless its a no brainer now
babcock will want to assess what the team has for himself. |

Good lord, I hope not.
This whole past season was Shanahan doing that exact same thing. You'd think there would be some sort of confidence in the brain trust. |

So a team is giving up a 1st, 2nd, prospect, and a player good enough to get a first, so like a Franson or something.... Hmmm, again, if this happens, good times, but I would expect less.... |
